Ok, other nations are starting to build wonders, and fast. We should be thinking on how we want to build our next wonder (most likely, the Great Library). We can prebuild a palace in 2 cities, but, we should only prebuild after expanding a bit. (most likely, that's in 10 turns). Valhalla has the most growth potential of the 3 cities, and can start building a palace prebuild (takes 46 turns at size 3). If we build our next city by the cattle and game (as planned), that can be our secondary city while Valhalla starts the prebuild. The GL isn't something we can afford to put off any longer! The wonder cascades will be starting again, and we need to get one of the most important wonders in the game! (antiquity atleast). We also must keep an eye out for the builder of the pyramids. If they are close, they're a target.

Bah humbug! We need the Heroic Epic and a Forbidden Palace before we need a great wonder. :king:

If we are constantly at war and start a domino effect, we WILL need the Great Library. ;) (no, this is not propaganda. )

Ive always liked the gret library, not just because if two civs have the same techs and we get it for free but for its cultural value as well, and as i love culture we should mix in some culture with our warmongering ways :)

We should maybe try to capture-the-library. Who will propably build it? If we manage to device the civs we know, the tech rate will go down for them also, as their trade abilities will be limited.
And no AI civ builds the GL while at war :-)
I also sense the heroic epic imho is more important for our decided way to go (military, remember the poll?). The FP will soon be needed, as from the map afaik we will become a very widespread nation soon.

I agree. Great wonders should not be a priority at this point. The minor wonders of Heroic Epic and Forbidden Palace will do more for our nation. The Great Library is fun to have and is useful but we are doing just fine without it and will continue to do so.

As I have said on many, many occasions, we really do not need the Great Library. It's useful, yes, but also expensive and in no way essential to our success. As Donsig & Shaitan have said, we should be concentrating on preparations for building the Heroic Epic & Forbidden Palace - which are comparatively cheap and do not require us to race the AI to guarantee completion. These small wonders would increase both our chances of generating Great Leaders and the size of our effective production base, thus giving our nation the extra momentum needed to cement its status as the top dog on the world stage.

The Great Library, on the other hand, will only be effective if we allow ourselves to lose our current tech lead and are content to sit back and watch other civs set the agenda. As we have are on the same continent as our rivals, there is no good reason for us to do so - we can keep ourselves ahead in research via shrewd trading and intelligent warmongering, combined with our own research efforts where required.

I agree with the President.

Eklektikos is right. If we keep our tech lead, the Great Library will only be good for Culture. Yes, I am the Culture Leader, but the good of the nation comes before the good of the Department. I think the HE and the FP are far more important to us at this time.

i could not disagree with the prevelant position here more strongly. eklektikos, the gl is not just useful if we fall behind, it means we can leech off other civs who take the more obscure and off-course research paths; dead-end things like chivalry. also, its cultural bonus is immensly valuable. we can build the gl and then build the others. we probably wont get the chance to do it the other way round.

Normally, I would in favor of completeing the Great Library with all due speed. However, the points the our President brought up hold true. If we are to make ourselves a warmongering nation, we must focus on warmongering. Trading, and the capture of technology, will be the most effective way for us to advance our great civilization.

Who needs to leech? We can extract that knowledge from our rivals at swordpoint, while expanding our territory and increasing our temporal dominance as well as our technological and cultural might.
