Wonder Elimination Thread

Hagia Sophia (14)
Hanging Gardens (0)
Oracle (7)

Boom. There it goes. Now Hanging Gardens is gone. It just doesn't do enough that you can't already get from a couple farms, and it comes at the same time as a LOT of other build options, both wonder and otherwise. Unless you have a ton of hills or desert, it just isn't a priority.

One more for Hagia Sophia. +25% GP growth should be good for a couple free great people down the road and of course, you get to cherry pick a wonder, one that takes more :c5production: than you invested here. Can't ever go wrong with that.

Hagia Sophia (15) +1
Oracle (4) -3

I would rather have the flexibility of HS than a free SP.

Maybe next time we do a thread like this some nice person will create a web applet that does the score keeping for us.

I'm not really sure where Blue Oyster got his base values as they are rather out of date. Updating to include his upvote; his downvote is obviously not applicable anymore.

Hagia Sophia (16) +1
Oracle (4) -3

Really no contest here. HS gives a free second wonder, or tech, or butt-ton of culture, or pile of cash. Oracle gives a free policy, which can also be achieved by popping a culture hut early on or settling the Great Artist you take from the HS and waiting a dozen turns. Whoo.

I'm so glad this will actually get done this time.

Wait. I just looked yesterday, my post wasn't counted.

You guys disregarded that.
HG still has 1, go look.
Hagia Sophia (13)
Hanging Gardens (1)
Oracle (7)

And oh my god, it was YOU of all people who didn't pay attention.

if you look at the post #299 , where I have wrotten the correct values, including your vote

, so , flmlizard's vote, was not correct, because HG was already dead ...

and blue oyster's voting was correct as far as I can see it.

this would let to:

Hagia Sophia (15)
Oracle (1)

, note without flmlizards' vote,

if flmlizard would have voted for HS and against Oracle, then it would be over with

Hagia Sophia (16)
Oracle (-2)

.... maybe someone can look from post #296, if I'm wrong ... ?

However, some kind of module to keep correct votings, would be nice ....

Hagia Sophia ftw! Yeah no doubt about the big winner. Awesome wonder.

Hagia Sophia (16)
Oracle (0)

There I made it official should there be any confusion about voting irregularities.

yes, it's over, finally.

When looking at the ranking, imho the greatest mistake has been done to FP. The 10% less unhappiness through pops will get even in small civs a higher benefit than ND. And I normally play wide empires, where I have some more pops.

Maybe SoL needs little more a certain playstyle, but if done so, it's production bonus is enourmous and sowith I would put it on #2-#5.

The other rankings are ok, maybe I would change the one or other ranking by 1,2 ranks, but it's ok.

What do you think ? Is the result quite ok ?

Here are the final rankings:

27th: Angkor Wat
26th: Brandenburg Gate
25th: Great Lighthouse
24th: Cristo Redentor
23rd: Kremlin
22nd: Pentagon
21st: Pyramids
20th: Stonehenge
19th: Colossus
18th: The Louvre
17th: Taj Mahal
16th: Himeji Castle
15th: Big Ben
14th: Great Wall
13th: Sydney Opera House
12th: Machu Picchu
11th: The Forbidden Palace
10th: Sistine Chapel
9th: Porcelain Tower
8th: Statue of Liberty
7th: The Eiffel Tower
6th: Chichen Itza
5th: Notre Dame
4th: Great Library
3rd: The Hanging Gardens
2nd: The Oracle
1st: Hagia Sophia

I agree with most of them. I'd have the oracle lower down and possibly FP higher up. I'd also have the Great Wall and Himeji Castle higher up. Maybe the colossus lower down and Stonehenge a little higher up.

I reallly don't understand why Stonehenge was eleminated so early, it is in my opinion the most important and most sought after Wonder, it gives a HUGE Culture Boost, especailly against the other wonders, so in my opinion it should be higher up.

:) But this was fun, now we should do Units xD

Does anybody else think the Hagia Sophia would be better if they removed the minarets? It originally didn't have them...

I'd hardly consider a wonder whose culture boost is the same as a temple with an artist specialist a huge boost.

+6 culture isn't that much*, than 8 and I believe 11 culture at begin. And it depends some other stuff, if it is a good idea to build or not. When you play OCC, then it is something different to a early settler rushes. For example take france, a settler and legalism and you have also 2 ( through france ua ) and 4 ( 2 monuments through legalism ) your 6 culture ( I know, that therewith the sp-culture need increase, but also your production, but also your unhappiness, ..... ). 6 Culture is relative less*

Rank 20 is ok therefor.

I apologize for my density, but why is the Oracle so good again? It gives you a quick social policy, without increasing the costs for the next one. And outside of a cultural victory this is worth building in lieu of other options in the given time period?

The viewpoint I've seen presented here about GL vs Oracle is we get fewer policies than techs, so one policy is proportionately more valuable than one tech.

Yes, but I definitely don't think that The Oracle should be nerfed. I think, in a way, The Oracle was only second because people were focussed on voting down others. It never really was a favourite at any point.
