Wonder Elimination Thread

They don't bother to build it. Any AI that completes Apollo and wants science victory automatically starts building spaceship parts when it can.

I saw it build once as I was going for culture victory (all other games I was ahead in tech so I always build it first). But they probably don't prioritize it that much like Forbidden Palace or GL.

The Oracle is a really flexible wonder, and is one of 2 wonders in the classical/ancient eras that grant scientist points. Plus it's not prioritized by the AI, making it a bit easier to get on immortal+.

Sistine Chapel? If you are going for culture victory, it doesn't make sense to have a culture-boosting wonder give a modifier for every city, considering the fact that you will only have 1-3 cities if you're smart about it. Would be more useful as a wonder for an ICS along with Ankor Wat.

GL - Can't remember the last time I ever got this (or even tried for it) on the difficulty level I play. Probably pre G&K. Can't really rate it if I can never get it.

LToP - Go for this one (and usually get it) pretty much every single game. With the free GE, the rest is basically free, only you put in the hammers for the next one when there's a slight lull in the game. Win.

The Itza has more general use now that Great Artists can give golden ages and golden ages give culture. Chichen Itza: not just for showing off as Darius anymore! Do I get bonus points for building the Chichen Itza in the city of Chichen Itza?

Honestly, the rest of the list are all wonders that fit into the "nice, but I can live without" category. Most wonders are really like that now, which is a pretty awesome place to be, balance wise. They can be a nice boost, but you can get by without them too.

Voting down the Statue of Liberty because it is nice, but overrated! Specialist bonuses just don't seem as powerful as they were in Civ4.

Leaning Tower of Pisa's free great person is incredibly useful as I said before. Can never get Great Library, so I can't rate it if I can't get it.

The Leaning Tower is great for farming GP's. I have yet to have played a game where I haven't built it.

Again I have my reasons to hate the HG that I have listed before.

(Since PlasticSoldier listed reasoning for downvoting GL and not for SC I didn't count the SC downvote.)

Neuschwanstein makes Castles an absolutely fantastic building, while the Oracle just gives the equivelent of a couple hundred culture at most as a one time bonus, with five cities Neuschwanstein beats that in about 10-20 turns

Love Petra. A great way to make a horrible desert spot powerful. Gotta love those river desert hills!

SofL is ok, but sometimes I just don't have the specialist numbers to make this wonder worth my while.

The castle because it gives worth to buildings that can otherwise be ignored often.

Downed the PT because the RA bug (where you get 1 or 0 beakers) has hit me a few times and I therefore don't trust the PT much.

Still loving N Castle for the reasons I said before; such a flexible wonder that provides substantial benefit on maintenance-free buildings that are very quick to build at that point.

SofL is way overrated in my opinion. 1200 hammers for a production bonus that isn't going to make up 1200 hammers any time soon unless I've got a ton of cities that can afford to have a ton of specialists, at which point I've probably already won the game.

I keep on downvoting Eiffel Tower because of its anti-synergetic ability.
Hubble because, believe it or not, it made the difference for me last game, allowing me to catch up with a monster tech-leading Korea. I'm positive I would have lost without it.

I rarely use statue in as a useful wonder.
But again "Neuschwanstein" makes castles very useful and it is great to use free castles as an advantage.

Petra is ridiculously overrated. People seem to judge it on a best case scenario when your first Settler starts in the midst of a lot of desert hills at a river.

As someone who plays on King and Emperor, I do generally manage to build the Great Library and while it's dangerous to make going for it a lynchpin of your strategy, if you time it correctly it's immensely useful that early in the game.

I deducted points from the Statue of Liberty as it never seems to be worth building when I could be working on Eiffel Tower or Cristo Redentor instead. Plus, the AI will always go for it.
