Wonders vs Districts

No doubt big cities can support more districts, but so far there doesn't seem to be so many mechanisms that will prevent you from having MANY big cities. So it won't necessarily be tall or wide like in CiV where you had tradition SP-tree, a whole bunch of powerful NWs and a lot of culture and science penalties that discouraged you from going wide. Talking about tall and wide doesn't really make sense unless they're mutually exclusive.
there are rising costs for settlers, districts and builders, so it's not so easy to found many cities. And although the costs can be mitigated, the new growth mechanics would ensure that cities without fresh water don't grow fast. Wide play in its traditional sense means founding cities without being choosy, but now it the places to settle are primarily dictated by the avalability of fresh water spots and are therefore map-dependent. So yes, you can found many cities, but will they be able to grow big? Also, barabarians seem more aggressive now and will keep your expansion in check in the early game. But time will tell what the playstyles in the new game will be.

I know settlers will become more and more expensive the more you build (at least that was what I heard). But if builders/districts get more expensive, will it be according to number or to era? Also remember that building settlers do NOT stall city growth.

Well, I'm not saying you will be able to grow all your cities, I'm just saying that in CiV there was a point where getting new cities would almost never pay off (unless off course by conquest), and if there is to be a meaningful distinction between tall and wide, there must sometimes be something to gain by NOT building your next city.

But yeah, time will tell.

as far as I know builders and districts will get more expensive according to number, so it won't be that easy to fill your cities with districts and improvements.
