My company is reorg'ing, and my coworker just got a call to inform him that he's being displaced and will have to move to another part of the country if he wants to keep his job.

I didn't get a similar call, and I'm the one who answered the phone, so I guess I'm safe. But I suspect another one of my coworkers will get a call.

Damn we had a good team. Now it's broken.

(edit: Changed to 'country' from 'company' for completeness)

Ouch. That sucks man.

Good luck on holding the remnant together. You may have to pick up some of the slack until things settle down.

Office space is the greates office movie ever!

"I'd say in any given week, i only do about 15 minutes of real, acutal work."

(not exact but bite me)

Thanks for the sympathy, all. BTW, it's not just another part of the company they have to move to but another part of the country. In 3 weeks. (Well, they'll work here for 3 more weeks and then have up to 90 days to take one of the jobs elsewhere in the country or else they're considered to have resigned. Nice way to avoid the word "layoff".)

And I found out two other workgroup members (but not my immediate team) got displaced, too. I suspect I'll lose another on my team and another two in the workgroup. Not one of the best days on the job I can tell you.

"So, you're going to fire Michael and Samir and give me more money? Wow."

When Office Space first came out I just didn't get it. My company was different back then. But Office Space and Dilbert are spot-on nowadays, and it's a sad thing.

Oh, how could you speak such blasphemy? Don't you know that our economy is going really great right now!? 7.2 percent! Woo! Great economy!

On a serious note, sorry that happened to you. It's happening to a lot of places and people...not exactly encouraging to walk into work and find out you don't know any of the people there....

Well, half my team and half my workgroup have been informed they're displaced. I'm not sure it's better to be one of the ones going or one of the ones staying, but I'm one of the ones staying.

Thanks again for the sympathy. I just needed a place to gripe a bit.

It all attiude, and the ones going are better off. Great time to
retrain, or change careers or start a business.

The ones remaining will have to do the same amount of work and the management will try and put them through the sauage grinder to extract as much "work" as possible. Going to get pretty ugly. Don't expect any raises soon.
