Is there a way to automate workers to build only roads like in Civ 4? I want to automate my workers to build railroads where I currently have roads.

From my experience, they usually do that once you hit the tech. They always seem to build roads and railroads first.

EDIT: Assuming you have them on automation.

I don't believe there is such an option.

However, what I usually do when I'm about to hit railroad is setup workers in various cities. Once railroad pops you can make a worker "route to mode" to a city, then another worker "route to mode" to another city. In this way you can automate the building of a railroad between 2 or even more cities.

I automate workers when I feel lazy and generally they are pretty intelligent about roads. They will build roads/rail as a priority, but as little of it as possible, just to connect up your cities.
