I was just wondering, and if this has been dicsussed recently, kick me, but What were the opinions of the majority about workers?

When you build one, are you more prone to dictating his every move? Or are you more prone to putting him on auto-pilot? Also, I'm sure there are variations in strategy on this, lets hear them.

Definitely move them yourself. I am always repeating myself with this line:

Manual worker control is the single biggest advantage the human player has over the AI.

Why allow the AI to control your workers when it doesn't even know how to control its own? The thing that amuses me most about AI workers is the irrigation on grassland under despotism. :crazyeye:

Move them yourself until everything is improved so that it is impossible for even the AI to screw it up.

As everyone else has said, move all workers manually untill there's nothing left for them to do but clean polution.

manually until full railroad connections than I turn them on auto but dont change improvements. But I do keep a gang of a dozen under manual control for spot improvements.

Yep, I prefer manual. With auto, if I forget to hit 'no altering' I find them changing the landscape too much. They're planting forest where I wanted irrigation, mines where I wanted forests and so on. The other thing is, I go road crazy with my workers. I try to cover every single inch of my civ with road.

This is highly recommended as roads give +1 commerce to each tile. Building roads everywhere is the key to having a strong economy.

I will manually move them until the 12 pack is improved (the 12 squares a citizen would work). Then send them on auto-pilot where they don't distroy other improvements until steam power comes. Then I build my railroad.

The only exception is rarely I will put them on auto jungle-clear.
