Working on some new terrain...

I am not quite sure how you mean Bluemonkey. Unless, your just messing with me. :p If not, let me know.

I am going to go ahead and release both versions of plains though. I kind of like both versions as well and cannot decide which I like better. Mixed responses just leads me to believe that releasing both would probably be best and it really only takes about 1 min to make both versions once I have the "colorful" version done.

Currently, I am working on deciding what textures/features the deserts will have, which I am having some interesting 'problems' with. They are sort of working out pretty cool though IMO, with occasional dunes scattered throughout large deserts.
Once I am done getting the desert terrain worked in I am going to work on adding in cliffs/beaches like ryhe's terrain. I really like how he did his terrain. Then tundra will be a piece of cake, which is why I am saving it for last.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I was having trouble with this site being slow; it seems to be fixed now.

Here's a thumbnail of what I meant with the ones I like circled in blue and the one's that look too artificial to me in red. In nature the transition from one ecoregion to another has patchy frontiers, not edges. :goodjob: on your great efforts to improve our terrain choices.

Ah yeah, I had noticed how straight the "no likeys" were also. I can add some more rough transitions easily. I thought you were referring to the line that seperated the tile themselves, sort of like the grid layer does. Thats why I thought you were messing with me or something. :p

While I like pulling a friend's leg, it wouldn't be my style to criticize when you had already posted that you were aware of the "weird lines" and were working on them. I try not to "mess" with people since that's a good way to get irritating really fast.

Sorry I haven't posted an update in a while. As I said the deserts are giving me a hard time. I have to Run them through 3 cycles of color indexes for them to turn out right. And I will have to manually change the last cycle one color at a time to boot. But it comes out looking the way I want it so, that's how I gotta do it. :p
Anyways, been a little busy and been trying to get some stuff done on this terrain when I can. Figured I would pop up an update with what I have done with deserts so far. I still have 2 desert pcx's to do but I am gaining momentum on it. With each tile I do I get more to work with on future tiles so, hopefully I will be able to finish these deserts really soon.
Anyways, here is an update of what they look like so far. (Their color scale is darker than they will be in the future, I plan on lightening up the sand. I have to use this filter alot of my graphics through this color scheme to get it to turn out right though. :crazyeye:)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the light tan plain desert tiles are just fillers for now. If you look close at some of the screenies, you can see I messed up some of my pcx's and freckled them with black and pink. It annoyed me so I threw in the light tan tile.

I haven't fixed the 'no likey's yet. :D But i have almost finished these deserts. Here is an example of the deserts with color currently in the process of being fixed.

Fixed it.

I took a break on this terrain to begin working on a mod. I am now working on both but also have myself occupied in a couple other activities so, I am not sure how soon this graphic modpack will become available. (I do still intend to make 2 versions as earlier discussed.) To see current updates to the terrain until it is finished, you can check out my mod I plan on posting this week. (WARNING: My mod is just getting off the ground and more than likely to have many imbalanced features until my next update.)

Will end up throwing a link on here once my mod is up and posted.

Got a little more work in, although not much. Have to fix some frecklework on the deserts and do some blending. Also the cracked desert isn't sitting too well with me right now as to how it looks. It will be a filler tile for now until I can work out a better texture later. But here is a refreshed preview.

Right now the mod is here

Yeah sorry I took a long break. I actually aint in KC anymore ... will probably change my location on here one day. Then I also started wanting to play everytime I modded a few things so deserts took even longer than planned. (I hated doing them but am happy how they are turning out.) they still need some work, but nowhere near as much as they needed before the color alterations. That part is done now for the most part.

Currently, I am trying to finish the deserts (minor work left) and also do all the grassland/tundra conversion tiles. (minor work but still a decent pcx file to fart around with.) Then I will probably release version 1. Then at some point later I plan on adding in hills, mountain, tundra, and river modifications for version 2.

If you want to see a world generated with my work so far, you can download my mod with the current state of the mod here. I am doing a mod and the terrain at the same time. BUt for a quick peek you can download the mod and generate a world in the editor. (Currently just looking for bugs in the mod's current status while working on the terrain.)
