I've gotten this recently as an error. I tried 2k forums but they didn't seem to know what it was. I hope maybe some of you have had some experience with this error:

When I try to open up World Builder, this pops up, the program closes, but in the background, Civ V has started running (not playably, but as background processing).

In addition to the World Builder not opening, now the actual game will not open. It just runs in the background without actually opening up to play. I've uninstalled and reinstalled with the same error.

I am having the same problem, just noticed it last week. quite odd indeed.

Same issue here, I just posted about it. As long as I don't open World Builder I can play the game with no issues whatsoever. But as soon as I open the WB it causes it the error AND prevents me from playing the game. The only option has been a computer restart. And leaving World Builder alone...

The easiest fix for this is to go into the task manager and end the civV process. That way you''ll be able to play the game and not get stopped by an error message saying that civ is already running.

As for world builder, there is a good work-around provided in this thread:

Thanks Hiram, I'll try the work around. The first thing I tried was closing all Steam and Civ related programs/processes through the task manager but even that didn't work.

But the other work-arounds are new to me. Here goes nothing...
