Here's a new idea: what if science pacts occasionally resulted in World Projects? Of course, only those in the pact would receive the bonuses, but they could be traded to other civs.

Ancient/Classical:
Silk Road

Medieval/Renaissance:
Columbian Exchange

Industrial/Modern:
United Nations
Map of the Human Genome
International Space Station
The Internet

I tried coming up with Projects for the first four eras, but it was kind of hard. Sorry.

So... any suggestions?

Here's an idea for implementation.

SILK ROAD
Special Building (only one of it's type per Civilization, but no limit on the number of Special Buildings in any one city [as apposed to National Wonders]).
Prerequisite: Market Place
Upon construction of Silk Road, host City gains an additional trade route with every other City which has constructed a Silk Road and is connected to host City by a trade route.

I have an idea for something like the library at Alexandria. Two civs build it together and they get a specific scientific boost between the two of them sort of like the library at Alexandria. Ptolemy built it but many scholars from all around the mediterranean came to study there and add to its library.

Shared wonders would be a really cool idea. I love the Silk Road idea. :goodjob:

Crusades, maybe a bit controversial to implement but might work?

International Space Station - maintenance cost increases?

Channel Tunnel - trade value boost?

UN - everyone always want to see it reworked.

Missile Defence Shield

Great concept. Love the idea of shared wonders. Can´t think of anyone myself... but those posted here are some great ideas.

Ancient:

Great Wall - as joint project of some civs suffering from Barbarian incursions.
Hanse - Joint trade network around a common sea.
Polder - joint building of a set of levees/dikes near the coast which gives each civ a couple of more land tiles at the place of former sea tiles, possibly with some wheat ressource.
Qanat/Garden Eden - digging long tunnels to supply very arid regions like deserts with water, existential for ancient Persian desert dwellers: Qanat in Wikipedia

There are a number of canals that have been joint projects that could work for something like this.

What about a NAFTA or European Union type wonder? Or is that too close to the UN?

Manned Space Station

The Maginot Line?

This is a fun game. I'm drawing a blank on ancient ideas... everything that united people was war... I was thinking of The Vatican...

It's weird that I can't think of a single European joint effort from olden times... The Roman Empire brought people together. Siberian Railroad.

Any giant dams? The Haldron Collider?

I think for medieval European the Hanse is a great suggestion. You could call out the Holy Roman Empire too as a sort of federation of smaller states in its later years.

Offa's Dyke or similar would work, but that was really a group of one of the English kingdoms as I understand it.

The first one to build a railroad across a given continent that is at least like 10 tiles could get the transcontinental railroad (there could be one for each continent, which would allow for the trans-continental, trans-Siberian or Berlin-Baghdad and Cairo-Capetown type routes.
