I just started my first game on emperor and I think I got a really bad start. All lands souths of the isthmus of Constantinople were jungles and marshes. Any advice?

Well, I guess it could have been worse. It looks like the Japanese island there has only mountains and desert. The French at least have a fresh-water lake and horses.

Quite frankly, I'd abandon the game and re-roll a new start...but then, I'm not known for toughing things out. ;)

The thing that would annoy me is your continent is tiny. But other than that It isn't the worst start location I've seen. I would play on.

whats with the button with the swordsman below the menu?

keep at it, get some workers on it

Not too bad. Had a start recently with nothing but mountains in the north, then a big desert followed by a huge jungle. Not a whole lot of food sources, but I guess I did have some resource opportunities....no horses though.

Play on, see where it takes you.
