Edit: Dhoomstriker left a bunch of fun comments in his log.. how do you do that?
Thanks, ccccc, for noticing my diligence in documenting some of the occurrences in my games, directly in the event log.
Specifically, I am using the Custom Log Entry feature, which allows you to type in some text on the fly in your game. You can do the same by pressing Alt + E while in the game (while using the Hall of Fame Mod, of course). A text box will appear, in which you can type a simple text message.
I initially began to make such Custom Log Entries because they appear in my autolog files. Using this feature, I could make note of key decisions and occurrences when they happened, without having to Alt + Tab to another note-taking application.
These Custom Log Entries also appear in your in-game event log. Everything in the in-game event log appears in the event log captured on the Civ4 Replay Display page. You can get to the Civ4 Replay Display page for any player from the Civ IV GOTM Results page for the corresponding GOTM. Simply click on the link in the "Victory or Loss (Events)" column on the Results page.
When I happily discovered that the event log that appears on the Civ Fanatics site displays this information, I began to start commenting my games a little more liberally.
I find the ability to review the event logs of all players to be a nice feature of the Civ Fanatics web site. You can actually go back and review any game, including your OWN game, in order to see what the player and even the AI were up to and when they did the things that they did. The information can be quite illuminating.
I'm not positive, but I think that I also spotted the text for my in-game Reminders on the Civ4 Replay Display page. I'm pretty certain that the Reminders don't show up in your in-game event log, but they do appear as pop-up messages. By Reminders, I am referring to one of the Mods that make up the Hall of Fame Mod. You can enable the Reminders Mod on the HOF3 tab, found in the game Options menu (Ctrl + O). Once Reminders are enabled, you can create one by pressing Alt + N. I find the Reminders to be useful in keeping me from needing to remake the same decisions on successive turns--if I want to whip in a city in 6 turns, then I can set a Reminder and then forget about the city until the Reminder message appears.
Feel free to use these commenting features to improve your own game play. I'm sure that these commenting features will also improve the communication between team members of SGOTMs, that is, if these features aren't already used by players there.
P.S. Thanks to the staff for yet another enjoyable game!
