WOTM 21 Final Spoiler - Game Submitted or Abandoned

Hmm! WOTM 21 doesn't finish until 4th Feb. You actually had 3 days and 8 hours left as of the time of this post, and according to the GOTM Home Page. However, having come here you will not now be able to submit!!!

Sorry Sir, I'll do my best to improve my behaviour.

I've no problem with your behaviour, just your eyesight :) I didn't want anyone to get the wrong impression about the deadline.

Was hoping to launch in the 18th century but that was not possible. I did eliminate Issabella and took some cities from Huyna.
Hmm. I submitted my game last year so I don't remember details, but I'm sure the only units I sent overseas were a few caravels and the occasional GMerchant for the trade mission. Still, I did get a 18th century launch, so I'm not sure more warring would help me much. :)

:lol::lol: That was a long time ago.

It is not a stratergic decision, just my typical "I will attack you if you are annoyed at me all game" behavior. Also I find it very difficult to build gold and reserch in my cities. I know it is a bad habbit but I just love building all the markets, universities, factories and etc...etc untill the last 10-20 turns. My biggest fault in this game was I never set up a GP farm. At 500AD I was planing to do so, but somehow ended up building the National Epic in the Capital. I do not even remember doing that. I only realized it when I was ready to build it in the planned city and the option was not available. Dah :crazyeye:

Pitiful effort

Settled at the mouth of the river on the coast for some whimsical reason, then decided to attempt pottery first instead of bronze working. That's where my little thought out decision processes began.

In all honesty, got a little bored late game up til my final sloppy 1909 space victory.

Had decided to go for space, then decided to try for Diplo. Built the UN, tried and failed a few times for Diplo victory. Gave up and started on spaceship parts. Built Manhattan project and tried to nuke opposition to get the votes how I wanted them. Failed and ended up with most of the world at war with everyone else. Finally limped into space win many rushed turns later.

Moral of the story is... Less is more. If I try to play too much Civ I get bored and focussed on the WIN and click turn and turn again without bothering to do anything to help my empire.

If I try to play too much Civ I get bored ...

That pretty well defines what would constitute playing "too much Civ". How much Civ is too much Civ may vary for each player, though.

Hot off the presses and in by a nose.

I couldn't bring myself to attack my Ottoman brothers, who had adopted my state religion and treated me well. I sent missionaries to Cyrus, Augustus, and Huayna and these 3 became my good friends.

I settled a 'fort' city on the southwestern island, and settled the island northeast of persia. I was just having fun and not power-gaming until izzy declared war on me, followed by Mansa. I took the 4 nearest Spanish cities and sued for peace, and Mansa wanted peace soon after. Years later I finished the war with Spain at Incan request.

Realizing my U.N. was worthless, thanks to a general dislike for me on the SW continent, I went for an easy space race.

Way back, I had a problem with money and science. I really emphasized $$$, with lots of banks, grocers, markets, etc. My religion was a big help too - as were the many many many wonders that I built.

Overall, it was a pretty fun game, and it was nice to have a bit of a navy. I would have preferred a few more opponents though.

I thought with the large map there were a pretty good number of opponents. What really surprised me in this game was how SLOWLY they all teched. When I finally went warring off continent..they were really backwords.

My first GOTM win - after about a dozen attempts!

Mind you, I took my time achieving a space victory with but a few turns remaining. My original plan was a culture win, but with about 30 turns remaining realised that I wouldn't make it - so switched to research to get the remaining techs and built like crazy.

I'm learning something each game though, and afterall - someone has to prop up the bottom of the table and it might as well be me! Perhaps I might even move up a few spots on the ladder...
