So like is the issue:

I and my opponent call eachother evil/wrong, and the one who I dunno kills the other is the one that gets seen by others as evil/wrong?

because in that case I'd want defeat

Depends on what is at stake.
I'd prefer to win at the lottery and get the money without being validated all over the country about it.
I'd prefer lose the final in the chess world championship and be validated.
I'd prefer to save the world without being validated than "almost" saving the world in front of it before it's destroyed.
I'd prefer to almost win some girl's affection and she noticed it, so I can get her once the winner meets an accidental demise.
