Writing in Gunpowder

Nope, same error. Maybe we should start from the beginning, with everyone deleting his/her Custom Assets Folder right before playing his/her turn.

I have a few questions Imp.

Is LoR still installed on your PC? (possible issue)

Are you using the LoR desktop icon to launch BTS? (I dought you are doing this)

Do you have the CD/DVD version or the streamed "Steam" version?

Will you please setup a 2 player pbem game play the first turn and send me my turn(we have already confirmed that you can play a (BTS) sav from Nighthawk

See here is the thing. Nighthawk setup "Give me 18" and he setup "Gunpowder". The ONLY difference between these games are how you get the turn or what you do before you load the turn(s)

Yes

Yes

DVD

Done.

Might I add the thought that Gm18bnoE has no bots but WiG has?

That second "yes" is the problem. You shouldn't be using the LOR icon to open the game to try to load the turn.

Regular BTS is different from LOR. You need to load regular BTS and then open the "Gunpowder" turn from there.

Or, alternately, the easiest thing to do is to just double click the turn and it will open with the proper program.

But the thing to remember is that LOR is a different program from BTS... so you need to make sure the turn opens in standard BTS and NOT LOR.

@Imp

Please go to you "Start" menu and find your original BTS icon.

Option; right click on it and "Send To" Desktop.

Use this icon for both Give me 18, and Gunpowder. These are exactly the same kind of game and should be started the same way.

Note; if you have a L of R game you play, be sure you close the game completely before loading these 2 games. They are Vanilla BTS games

Load your turn with Vanilla BTS and send it on :)

You guys completely misunderstood my point, I am not loading the turn after opening the program, I just doubleclick on it.

You guys completely misunderstood my point, I am not loading the turn after opening the program, I just doubleclick on it.

I am only trying to help. I completely understand that you load the turn but double clicking on the file (that the best way)

I am only gathering information because I do not know how well you know the folder system and the differences between a standard game and a game that uses a mod.

my previous question asked you if you started the game using the new L of R icon you got after installing L of R. and you replied "yes"

"yes" to us means you are loading the L of R Init files to a game that does not require them. Gunpowder is a standard generated map game just like Give me 18 and that game works for you. We can not tell you why the 18 works and Gunpowder does not. The point I am making is Give me 18 should not work either unless you do something different. It does not matter if there is bots (AIs) or there is 18 players.

One last point and please do not take offense, Have you tried to load the turn in the Multiplayer, Play by Email, Load. menu system? I ask this because you did not say you tried both ways

I understood it as a generic question, whenever I load a file of a PBEM-game it is usually the first thing I do after coming online, then afterwards I play LoR or FFP or RFC or whatever.

Maybe it´s something in the game options? Could please someone make a screenshot of the Settings screen in the last WiG attempt so we can compare that to the test game?

Yep, tried it several times, and yes now too after reading this, did never change the result.

And yes, I do understand the concept of mods, thank you very much.

Cheers.

@imp
It seems to me that, due to the many different modifications that you play with, some assets somewhere are causing your software to hit a fault. Everyone else has opened and played a game from all the different players so it must be something in your set up.

Can you start a game and send it to each of us so we can see if we can open it? Maybe that will tell us something.

I started a 2 player test game, attached, see if you all can open it.

I was able to open this file.

I believe Hawklord is correct but note that every setup is different, for and example the "Art" for a coastal square was replaced in your asset folder and what ever that particular issue is hasn't been seen in you Give me 18 game but when it does you will get the error on the give me 18 game.

The good news is that you can copy the "mod folders" to somewhere temporarily and reinstall the game and move the mods back to their original location and you have lost nothing but personal time.

when you play each of the games you play again, new assets will be created. These assets change turn to turn depending on what you can visually see from your game(s). Someone that has play a game a long time and can see the entire map and many other types of "art", units, building, improvements have much more assets than a player who is just starting out.

So I'd guess you have a lot of assets..

if you have no assets at all, when you open a save file the assets that are required to play this turn will be written in your assets folder. a good example of this is if you are playing a team game and you have shared vision and your team mate acquires his neighbors map. You load your turn and now see this additional area. This is an asset and is carried inside the turn.

Somewhere at some point a file was overwritten and has not been overwritten again and is corrupt. there is no way to find this file, there are 100s if not 1,000S of files. my point is if you backup your mod folders (that contains different art and sounds etc) and unistall the Civ4 and expansions AND DELETE EVERYTHING THAT WAS NOT REMOVED, you will start from scratch. place the mod folders back where they go. There is no need to re-download all those mod folders which is a common reason most people are unwilling to reinstall the game.

I currently have 2 Civ4 sets both with BTS. The CD version and the "Steam version". I do not need them both and my pbem games will play on either version. Also I have lots of mods too and I have had problems like this also and completely removing the game and reinstalling fixes anything. I made completely bold because uninstalling does not remove all game files from your system, they are left their for reinstalation convenience. but if you install with these file present you will probably have the same problem!

Sorry I got tied up with school this week.

Hawklord´s file did not open for me, same error as ever. After seeing how slowly I make progress with my Gm18bnoE story, I don´t think I would be that helpful in WiG anyway, so maybe you should better count me out except for my gueststar-esque neutral mediator thingy.

Cheers.

Should we just go without Knoedel then? We can use the save I sent or start completely over? Doesnt matter to me...

 Ok we go on, it is a shame my earlier laptop problems occured or I'd still have the original, original sav. I have a dinner date in a few minutes, after that I'll send us a new start, I'll add the the same advance start as Nighthawk did unless I get a reply for an alternate option.

This was not the smoothest start for a game but as I said and others as well, the potential here is great! We a like minded players who enjoy the game, it is what we play to relax and have fun. We are adding the dimention of the second thing we enjoy and that is to share our imagination not to mention that this maybe the only game having 4 writers telling story(s) of the Civilization.

So to me this was merely a pause in a game and all games have them, so lets WiG out shall we :)

Stratch part of the previous post, I have found a previous created game dated 4/22 created 4/17
Shall we continue this or start a new one with an advance start?
