Writing in Gunpowder

Excited we are finally launched! And I am still on the coast... except its TERRIBLE land, ugh.

GPS to Qlockwork!

Lets go one round and find a consensus on starting areas

Oh no I didnt mean that as wanting to start over... I can deal with crappy starts, it is what it is. It was just public ing thats all ;) i'm not one to give up just because I have a bad start, I consider it a challenge...

Update! Hawklords was right, this game is a Never starting Story.
A note from from Qlockwork says "it would be better to drop him from the game". It turns out a work is requiring more of his time than he previously expected so he thought best to drop from the game.

As for me, I hope we can continue. If your with me? Please let me know.

If your still with me shall we get a few more players??? :please:

I'm in of course... I am now involved in more than a couple PBEM games, so I won't be quitting civ anytime soon. I will wait patiently for this one to start! However at this point I refuse to help anyone with technical difficulties.

OK thank you guys

ANd I'll handle any issues arrive if any.

I've advertise in both the "Replacement" and "Game Registry" and also I sent a few personal PMs

Sounds interesting. I have not read the entire thread.

Is the idea to open a thread for each player that the community can read but the other participants cannot (or at least should not since we can't police it)? A bigpPart of Civ is the element of surprise and if we all read each others' stories while we're playing we'll all know to much (i.e. should I try for the 'Mids? Can I get the free Music Great Artist? etc.)

Well first there is a separate thread for writing

There'll be a post designated as a link to all that you've writen

The story can be as imaginative as you wish and the point of how close you write your story to what realistically is happening is up to you. As for me my story would not give away anything I wouldn't want anybody to know.

How this differs from other stories is we have multiple writers writing their story of their civilization. What we have seen so far is;
I am Napoleon, we also have Isabela and Joao II but we lost Elizabeth, so you can see there is a close proximity of our stories and they are bound to intertwine. With that said Diplomacy will take on a much deeper sense withing the story but as mention (realtime diplomacy would be email/PM) and then later added to the story.

Last comments I can think of right now is we originally wanted to "Poll" the readers to which writer(s) they find is bringing them back for updates etc (this has not a solid decision at this time though)

We'll want to play the turn as often as you can but write what you want when you can, not holding up the turn for the story itself

The story will be after the event. For example I build up my troops to invade my neighbor but would only write the part of the story about "the atrocities their troops had carried out that forced our peaceful nation to take these steps" later, after the invasion was in progress in the game. :)

Not that I would do such a thing ;) you understand, it was just an example :D

Yes I think Hawklord has the idea. Although generally the point of the game is more to write a story and create a world we are all living in rather than actually *winning* the game. Huge state secrets should stay secret, only publish what you are comfortable giving out... but in this case I may not be afraid to give out some info for the sake of the story. Generally you'd be writing about events after theyve unfolded during the game, but not always. This is really sort of new ground we are trying to break here so I dont think we all know for sure how its going to work out. The point is that its more about the role-playing than it is winning/playing the game itself. The game just gives us a nice framework and background to work with...

Eclipse mentioned that y'all are in need of another player and to post here if I am interested. If I understand the concept, we are playing a play by email game but with an emphasis on using the game events to create a story, which we then write about and post on the other thread? Do each of us write our own country's story, but intertwined with the others as we meet and interact with them I guess?

If I understand correctly, that sounds pretty cool, and I am interested, though I will be the first to admit I am not a great writer.

What other information do I need to know?

We've had trouble getting started due to issues with versions we think.

I don't think I am a great writer either, but it's more about the role play, and as long as you enter into the spirit of it it should be fun. I don't think a novel would go down well on the Internet anyway :D so I intend to keep it to reasonably short reports, only expanding important bits where appropriate.

@ Eclipse can we just launch something?

With Inky we have 4 again

Inky you have it down perfectly!!
I'm very glad your interested :). Yes this is where you'll be free to express yourself how you choose, Hawklord is correct it's RolePlaying your Civilization threw its ups and down, generally RPGing is connected to negatives but not here, you can write as you wish. I for an example will create stories about each of my population and how trades etc. effects each of them. To me a simple road built is more than what the game's mechanics allows.

Ok we'll get start as fast as possible, I'm gonna need a few days due relocating back to my home.
Consider who'd you like to be, we've chosen leaders that are relatively close together and that would also be good but if you want a Leader from any area that would be just as good.

PM me your email address and your pick.

Last note we'll be using the Tera map to have the "Old World", "New World" concept

Ok, so I just finished reading/skimming through the thread, and wow y'all have had nothing but troubles this whole game. From what i gathered, we are doing regular BTS, have increased the speed from epic to normal? (I prefer epic but whatever) And are now waiting for someone (me) to join to get started for what will hopefully be the last start?

And I should pick a country preferably in the Europe area? Assuming I've got all this right I'll take Frederick of Germany, and am ready to start whenever.

EDIT: PM sent

By the way, I have wanted to do a country leader style RPG for ages, but never thought of using civ as the vehicle for it. This game seems extremely awesome, and I'm happy to be here.

The forum hasn't granted me the rights to PM yet, so I will post a throwaway email address. Please email this one, and I will give you my actual contact information using that. The throaway is inky13112@hotmail.com

Welcome inky, you seem to be wanting to ingrain yourself in the PBEM community, its always great to have more players!

Yes, we were hoping for a 4th player, and you seem to have everything down pat. If you click the story thread, you'll see there already were a few stories written... very generic that can be used with any start, since we were having so many issues.

At this point, plain old BTS is the plan, Eclipse can decide the speed (I dont care) with an advanced start to give us something to do in the beginning. Terra map, standard size I believe. Also 4 AI's, one for each human to add a little color and some "NPC's" into the game.

And yes - the goal in this game is not to WIN necessarily, but to write and role play through your civ... it IS a great vehicle to be a muse for your writing skills, and fun at the same time!

Glad to have you!

Greetings everyone! I mustered up an ancient rig and set us up again!

With luck of good starts we'll get started :-)

Writing in Gunpowder reloaded :)

Played awaiting Inkies email. This land is not very good, tundra and dessert.
