Writing in Gunpowder

The decorated Hero La Hire returns from locations not yet undetermined, we know his travels were in the North but beyond that he will not say!

Napoleon had commissioned La Hire several months ago to locate and bring back another Local Hero Natuland, who surprisingly vanished without a clue. Returning without him causes Napoleon to confront the man, La Hire currently in Stocks has not said a word since he was bound in place for all to see and torment. Face to Face Napoleon asks him where he's been and La Hire fixes him with a glare and says nothing. Outraged at his subjects insolence, he pulls from his belt a thin stick and proceeds to thrash La Hire's face and hands all the while La Hire's glare remained fixed and focused on Napoleon. Napoleon stops abruptly and screams at him "Why are you defying me? Again La Hire says nothing, Napoleon reaches down at La Hire's feat and grabs the Warrior's own club and proceeds around behind him and raises the club for a full swing and the gathered crowd gasps, sensing what was going to happen next, he fights the stocks' grip to no avail, he begins to jerk left and right with much strength and Napoleon yields, lowering the club, walking around to face him once again knowing that he had proved his point and this could be bad for the Warrior if he did not say something. He begins questioning him again.

This inhibited standoff between two highly respected men takes a turn as the towns folk begun to chant, but they are not chanting for Napoleon, nor are they for him to thrash the disrespected Warrior, but a single world which would mean to us "Speak".

Napoleon's response to this was felt, believing he alone deserved the highest amount of respect after Self Proclaiming himself Leader of this tribe long ago, once again raising La Hire's own club to administer a final blow. Seeing this in time La Hire again fights the stock's grip and begins to relentlessly jerk from one side to the other. Napoleon tightenings his grip on the club and brings the club down aiming for the Warrior's head. Just then La Hire screams a War Cry! and with a last effort twists and lifts the stocks out of the ground sending him unbalanced closer to the deadly blow. The crowd again let out a great gasp as a wood on wood thud was heard as it struck the thinnest center arch just a few inches from his head, both now in an unbalanced battle ballet falling into each other as the upper half of the stock broke free with the first impact on the ground and then falling onto his back with a twist, the full weight of the remaining structure lightly pinning him to the ground.

Still bound at the wrists, his neck pressed between the splintering edges of wood now gapped enough to tear his head loose, Napoleon regains his footing and steps forward stepping heavily on the main beam with his Right foot, letting go without thinking his left hand to swing the club one handed in an arch to crush La Hire's leg between the blow and the beam when with a quick and powerful downward push of La Hire's arms sent the stock south freeing his head and throwing Napoleon off balance and to the ground. Now with one arm free he grasps under the cross beam and twists his legs for purchase, lifting himself and pivoting partially bound, tumbles over onto Napoleon, the combined weight trapping the squirrelly leader. Lying Face to Face, an object of pure cruelty between them, La Hire speaks for the first time, as he does he shifts his weight to properly subdue him until he was done.

"I have not found Natuland! The World is vast and it is wild, he could be anywhere or now nowhere! it is the hands of the Gods! I have met another tribe that call themselves the Portuguese. Napoleon begins kicking and struggling and La Hire responds by pushing down on the wood when a large sliver of wood dislodges from La Hire's neck and with it a stream of blood, and La Hire falls limp.

Mummers from the crowd spiral over them, as La Hire's consciousness fades.

Meh, seems like I should be getting started to begin my story too sometime.

Another group from the fast-growing city of Madrid set out to explore new lands and find new places to settle down. They head south-east into the unknown wilderness hoping to find food and a place to build shelter...

So has anyone else really been writing in the story thread? I know I haven't for a long while. My issue is that I haven't had the time to really focus on the story and with all the turns for other games, and diplo for other games, I've just lost all free time for writing that story. Also, as cool as my story might be, its hard to keep bringing it back to the civ game. Diplo and all civ turns are basically unrelated to the story until after the fact. So here's what I'm proposing, at least for me as Spain: I'm going to write up an overview of the current ancient Spanish empire, and then every turn write mini stories with screenshots for all my unit movements, diplo, creation of cities, etc. Since we are not supposed to be trying to kill each other necessarily, I'm not worried as much about the strategy aspect as I am immersing myself and everyone in the fantasy gaming experience. I will be naming each of my units and still work diplo whereby I need to send a unit to a border to talk, etc. I'm hoping that will be more fun and be easy enough that I can still do the writing aspect of this game rather than lose that.

Hopefully everyone understands my position and is ok with that. Maybe larger stories will grow out of the smaller stories, I hope. Taking my turn in a bit.

gps to hawklord... took some screenshots to write some stuff if everyone is ok with me changing gears like that.

All is well, we are only in the very early part of the game so far a nobody expects anything, this is just for fun, we all have lots to do, if we preasure ourselves to do more here, it would take from the fun part of it. it will come, you'll interact with someone at some point down the road and you'll want to share it in some way. Or if not you can write how your Civilization is managing their time so far.

My last story part was writing here rather than on the story thread but it will end up there, I've tried to show Napoleon's charater which at this point he thinks he's not getting the respect he thinks he deserves, he has self appointed himself as France's leader but who's to say La Hire for example isn't equally or more so capable and it's making Napolean mad or maybe cruel

I'm away over xmas with no internet. From 23rd to early in the new year. Do you want to find somebody to keep this going or wait till I get back?

Nah, it´ll be fine if this game comes to a stop for some days, I still need to write my first chapter anyway. Time flies. :(

I'm fine waiting as well. I won't be away during that timeframe, but with the holidays my turns will come slower anyways, so I have no problem with this game going into a pause.

Speaking of which, I have held the turn for a couple days now... I've been getting back loaded with turns and held this one off since I need to write up some stuff anyway. I've decided not to completely abandon my original story, but those chapters might come less often and only when I feel like it. Meanwhile there will be the story of the actual Spanish empire including pictures starting up. I will be writing a nice post out today and get the turn moved on this evening.

ok, I've updated the story thread with 3 new chapters :D

The latest on Antonio and his adventures were written about a month ago, I just hadn't put them up yet since I was trying to keep things on a delay. I caught them up and wrote the new "Welcome to Spain" chapter just now, which includes screenshots. I will be updating a lot more often with major decisions and things happening in Spain... Antonio will be less of the story and won't be around for a while unless I get motivated with what happens to him. Its a lot easier to come up with a storyline when its within the actual game ;) My turns may go slower as a result of this, but it doesnt sound like we care about speed in this one.

That being said, when you guys read it, you'll see there is some impact to the game for everyone to recognize.

1 - the "Spanish Horde" is a warrior which has no connection to Spain currently, they act on their own, should you meet them.

2 - Barcelona and soon my 3rd city are independant city-states from Madrid, meaning my empire is a lot like the ancient Greek empire. Generally they will be on the same page, but I may have them disagree occasionally, and I will be coming up with leaders for each of them. When you meet them you will speak with only 1 of them (for now anyway) and my status with you in-game (ie war or peace) may only be a technicality depending on what the city-states and/or the Horde decide. So don't get too angry and wipe me out just because 1 of my cities may be the warring type!

Things may change as the game moves along. thats just the latest from me, I think it gives it a little color and will result in a more exciting game for all of us!

PS - Knoedel, I'm so looking forward to you writing something!!!!!!! Where is it!?!???!!! And Hawklord your story of your meeting with La Hire was very well written indeed!
