thanks Rocoteh.

I took a look at the download numbers on the first page and they are still quite high! 1000+ for 1.9 and 2000+ for 1.8, thats pretty good.

I hope to get back on here regulary in the near future.

NOT GONE, JUST ON SABBATICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and I look forward to the beta....thanks.

oljb007,

Yes, you are right. In fact 2.0 was downloaded 40%
more than 1.9 the first month after release.

Looking forward to hear your comments on the new BETA.

I never dl'ed 2.0 because I wanted to actually finish my 1.9 game out as the USA. I'm sure the time commitment is HUGE to even contemplate a total redraw of the map and placement of all units. I appreciate your time and efforts, Rocoteh, and am looking forward to 2.1.

On another note. In my 1.9 USA vs. SID game... I am still making good progress with the British against Japan. They are essentially done counter-attacking (down to 3 Marines) and about 40% of China is "liberated." It is Week 40 or so 1941. I got my first leader! Since I don't use armies anymore in this scenario, I'm going to hurry some big improvement in China (maybe a Factory or something). Waves of arriving M3 Lee/Grants should really speed up this conquest. On the European front, I've completely liberated Italy and can keep Germany at bay for the moment. The Germans produce between 6 and 8 Panthers a turn now and I can just barely knock them all out as they move them in a stack against Venice (park them on a hill just outside the city). It takes combined arms of about 20 assorted artillery and another 20 or so bombing runs by Dauntlesses and B-25's. Then I knock out what's left with my M3's, but I lose as often as I win, even after all the bombardment. Seems quite realistic as Shermans never did really match up well against German armor, I believe. Rather a stalemate at the moment as I am unable to project any force outside my mountain kingdom (Italy) there. I've thought about a D-day style invasion as a good way to split German offensive forces... Not sure what I'll try next.

Russia is still perplexing. They are currently not at war with anyone, but have stacked 150-200 motorized infantry, T-26's, T-34/75's and Kv-1's on the western coast of Norway. It looks like they're planning to invade GB, but I can't be sure. It would sure be helpful if they were to throw those units at the German defenses in Poland, Bulgaria, etc. ;)

The fate of the world is still very much undecided, because if Russia were to jump in against the Allies, life would get miserable VERY QUICKLY.

OgrePete,

Thank you for the report.

This playtest sounds very interesting. I hope you will continue
to report from it. As mentioned earlier the Panther (due to a bug)
is available to early.

It will be interesting to hear what Russia will do.
As you say it will be of crucial importance.

Thank you and welcome back.

Rocoteh,

Your work on 2.1 is looking fantastic and I am most keenly awaiting its release. I have been lurking on the thread and reading the exchanges between you and IarnGreiper quite keenly. I hope that you continue the development of this great scenario. Please don't get demoralised. All your work on this version will pay off. I give credit where credit is due and every version of yours I have played has provided hours of entertainment. No doubt my thoughts are shared from the hundreds if not thousands of other satisfied customers that have enjoyed this d/l.
Whilst I am prattling on I am certainly a fan of naming significant units or "chrome". It does add significant hours to your workload no doubt but I do appreciate the effort.
When the long hours of unit placement gets annoying just think that your scenario has generated a thread that now tops 4045 entries!!!

PS: my 2.0 game is going strong and shows no sign of going stale just yet. Who said world domination was boring?

Hornblower,

Thank you for the positive words.
I really apprecate them.

Version 2.1 will be completed. When all units have been placed
I think it will be possible to set a target date. After placement of
units there will be bug-hunting, re-working of stats and other things.

Again: Thank you.

Welcome back.

But, today i saw the screenie of the huge version map, and it's AWESOME!!! :goodjob:
Could you please post the beta version in thread pleasepleasepleaseeee  i've been hoping for a scenario of this size for a long time...
besides couple more play-testers wouldn't hurt ;)

Rocoteh,

I downloaded the "HUGE MAP" , reloaded everything (new hdd!!!) and gave it a whirl!!!!

OH...............MY..................GOD

thats big!

Playtest report!
SID

turn1
took danzig

turn 2
warsaw (3 units inside)
lublin (1 cav inside)
radom (~3 units inside)

Rotterdam

Took the cities before all the field units could return and garrison inside!!!!

turn 3
coppenhaggen

**************************************************************
I KNOW THIS IS BETA BUT HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS, QUESTIONS AND THINGS I NOTICED.
**************************************************************
Things I saw and noticed:

A city south of Bern on the french/italy border was razed, I think it was the french taking of an italian city. The *French*(edit) then moved a stack to the mountains north of Milan and are poised to attack.
Also, it only took 15 minutes to load! :D
I like the placement of "wolf packs" throughoutthe atlantic.

Problems:

Tech tree has problems, there are two overlapping techs.
I can build Panzer IIIe's on turn 2-3
i can build Bismarc C's on turn 2-3

Questions:

What is the luxury/resource called Germany?
Also, is there a file/description for city improvements/wonders? ie Militia camp? (i think that was what it was called)
There is a German Battleship of the coast of South america, by the caribean?
British tiles seem under developed?

ALL IN ALL:

********
AWESOME
********

The Admiral Graf Spee was historically cruising in the southern Atlantic as war broke out.

The GErmany resource is most likely part of a new resource system that was discussed some pages ago.

oljb007,

Thank you for the report.
I am very glad to hear that you liked the BETA.

Not all wonders have been placed yet. Yes I think the "wolf packs"
shall create a more interesting situation in the Atlantic.
I will look over the tech tree.

On "resource" Germany and the German battleship:
Already answered by IarnGreiper.

Militia Camp:

A improvement from version 2.0 which will be deleted in 2.1.

Thank you and welcome back with more reports.

Hello Rocoteh,

I just wanted to report a few minor issues with the 1.7 map:
Even if it doesn t fit geografically I would consider moving Tirana a tile south. Greece is already someone distorted on the map you used as a basis, so Tirana could as well be a little more south. This should prevent some "border flips" when cities gain more culture as well as giving them a little more room.
Africa is a vast continent however I fear that the lack of roads (which represent real life railroads) will make it to vast. Salisbury should be connected to south Africa. Belgish Kongo should get some (rail)roads, too. While Marakesh is not on the map anymore, maybe there should be a road going to that possition reflecting the railroad there.

There are horses in east Africa, which seem odd.

Timbuktu seems out of place

While Barbarian camps in Greenland are just odd, the bonus village (goodie hut) there could create rather odd reults like giving tech. Same for the islands east of Madagascar and Sacharin north of Japan.

IarnGreiper,

With regard to Barbarian camps and villages:

I am aware of it. This is is just a BETA. The map will be "cleaned"
before release. The same holds true for the horses in East Africa.

I will look over Tirana and the railroads you mention.

On Timbuktu. I am aware of that. However since I can only place
512 cities and since the number of culture points each city can hold
are limited, sometime cities will be out of place.
The alternative are large "white spots" within some areas.

@ Rocotech, I've been playing the huge map for couple turns now as germany, and i have small suggestion about Poland. In beta, it's possible to take all polish cities within one turn, because there are so few units inside the cities. Couple garrisons in each city would make it more challencing for german player.
I know this is a minor thingy, but some finnish cities are named incorrectly. suggested changes...
Vasa ---> Vaasa
Åbo ---> Turku
Torneå ---> Tornio
other than that, this is looking fantastic :)

Roco, could you post a link to the Huge map. I can't seem to find it. Assuming the screenshot at the top of this page is from it, looks awesome.

This heavily improved Civilopedia have been done by saulosi.

It includes description and comments on most German and U.S. units.
This file will replace the old "official" one when the next graphic update is done.

Unzip this file and paste into the text-folder of WW2-Global.
