WW2 Navies

It seems a lot of the necessary points regarding the H-class have already been made. The industrial bottlenecks and necessary infrastructure involved in the construction of modern battleships is nothing to be errantly sneezed at.

A H-class is all well and good, until she catches the Katie.

I recall in days of yore, Wyrmshadow uploaded a screenshot of a stretched fast Montana. That was a interesting design; but one among many. I must admit while flipping through Friedman's I am particularly enamoured by the late 1950s conversion options.

Yes that stretched one turned out to be over 1000ft long when I measured it. It was as long as I imagined the Montana to be.... I sorta overshot the mark. Anyways, my Montana is not exact.. I had to use the parts I had at hand. So instead of a stretched North Carolina it turned into a stretched Iowa.

It is fine enough looking for me, and it does very nicely with what was at hand.

May I ask if you've ever come across a Worcester CL model out there? I'm collecting what pictures I can for a little work I have in the making.

I think you did a damn fine job on the Montanas. I still use that render you made of the Montana on the water as one of my wallpapers. :D And essentially they were, in looks, stretched Iowas.

:nuke: Cheers, Thorgrimm :nuke:

Wyrm, could you explain how the scale is working for your ships?
The Enteprise CV 6 was 809 feet long, while the midway (CVE63) was 512 feet
But when looked in Flicster, the Midway appears bigger than the Enteprise.

I think not

Anyway, I've used the NewEssex animation, and thanks to you I have a very nice upgrade line for the American carriers.

I've also replaced most of the American tanks by your new vehicles

If I am not mistaken the USS Midway is larger than an Essex class as it was a follow on to that ship design and designed specifically for the Tigercat to operate from even thought it never did so. It was later adapted to have angled flight decks. Also heres an interesting fact. The USS Midway set new standards of naval aviation in the latter half of the 20th century. A captured German V-2 rocket was launched off the USS Midway in 1947—the dawn of naval missile warfare.

Enterprise (Yorktown Class) Length = 761 ft (232 m)
Essex (Essex Class) Length = 872 ft (250 m)
Lexington (Lexington Class) Length = 888 ft (270.7 m)
Midway (Midway Class) Length = 968 ft (295 m)*

Conclusion: Nicely Scaled

Not to take away from the staggering importance of the "who's carrier is bigger" contest... ...(but mine is)... :p

Wyrm,
At the top of your list in your "other" category you have a "Light Battleship" that looks an awful lot like the USS Olympia (US, Spanish American War era). Is this coincidence?

Either way, very nice!

Wyrmshadow has created an Olympia unit already.

I imagine that the Light Battleship is based on either an actual Pre-dreadnought battleship (Olympia was an armored cruiser) -- the model resembles the British Lord Nelson-class more than any other I've seen --, or is just a random creation of his.

I'm guessing it's probaly made out of several different ship parts.

I used my CasemateBB as a base, then used some parts from my Nelson and Dreadnought. Purely fictional.

your ships are a enrichment for every mod! :hatsoff: i'm perfectly happy
thx

btw:i found some of your models on 3dcadbrowser.com. are you planning to convert your models in civ3 format?

Chaps, there were various SCB modifications of US carriers, both proposed and executed, in the early 1950s. The angled decks on Midway et al were one of them. Midway was never based on a CVE design, and never was an escort given an angled deck.
