Longer Explanation

Nations Name
The name of the nation

Civil war faction
When a nations falls into civil war with several factions fighting to become the sole rulers of a nation this is where their name will be listed, note that if only a part of a nation or a faction of in civil war declares independence they will not be listed here because they seek to become a new and independent nation and not to the "rightful rulers" of the nation they were part of.

Player Name
The CFC nickname of the sentient being that is playing that nation.

Ruler
The Ruler is the person in you nation that "calls the shots", players are expected to act in character of their nation's current leadership.

Political Alignment
Political Alignment determines what is de-facto the form of government of a nation, even though technically most authoritarian nations are democracies authoritarian rulers use their power to, for example, suspend elections or bypass government at their whim. This means that authoritarian governments can almost always declare war or issue controversial decrees with only dissident to worry about.

Dissident
Dissidents are people that are taking action to change the government trough any mean necessary. Dissident of up to 5% has no tangible effects. Dissident from 5% to 15% will manifest itself through protests, worker strikes and, in authoritarian nations, industrial sabotage and assassinations. Dissident from 15% to 30% will result in major chaos, ranging from angry mobs will target government institutions to open rebellion of units and provinces. Dissident over 30% is considered civil war. Colonies and occupied territories have much lower dissident tolerance, Colonies have a +50% dissident modifier and occupied territories have a +100% dissident modifier, this means that a dissident of 10% counts as 15% for colonies and 20% for occupied territories.

Manpower and Manpower Growth
Manpower is the amount free population eligible for military service, manpower growth is the amount of population that becomes eligible each trimester. Each point represents 1000 persons.

Industry Available and Base Industry
Industry is the backbone of your nation, it is the ability to manufacture goods and equipment. The available industry can be spent in whatever manner the ruler sees fit. Base industry is the total amounts of industry before various costs are subtracted. The most common cost is the upkeep of the armed forces.

Army, Navy and Airforce
Seems pretty self explanatory to me, however feel free to ask me if you need something explained.

Production
Most nation are not able to construct the more expensive things in one turn, partially build things and their progress is listed here (unless they are secret)

Looks good, can we reserve nations?

If so I would love to play the United States in a Pre WWII world.

Spoiler Land Units Description :
HQ
Headquarters are the brains of your armed forces. They contain the staff that keeps your army operations coordinated and running, such as logistics and planning staff. HQ are vital for any large deployment, without them any theater of operations with over 12 division will have severe efficiency penalties.

Militia
Militia are a cheap and rapidly formed Infantry unit. Their hurried training and poor equipment mean they are of little use in combat, although they can be useful for controlling territory and as a last line of defense when no other units are available.

Garrison
Garrison Divisions are second line troops used to safeguard valuable objectives far from the front lines. They lack heavy equipment and thus have limited fighting capability but can be used as a cheap and effective way to suppress partisans and defend fortified positions (Beaches, Cities) from anything short of a mass invasion.

Infantry
Infantry will most likely make up the bulk of your army. They are relatively cheap to build and require no regular fuel supply to maneuver, but their lack of motorized transport means their speed of advance is limited. However, Infantry are able to fight well in almost any weather and terrain and are especially good in urban combat. Infantry is also effective in securing large areas of land, mopping up the remnants of troops that were broken by other forces.

Marines
Marines are an elite branch of the Infantry, specifically trained for assaulting beaches and other naval operations. They make use of specialized equipment and tactics to give them an edge over regular Infantry in such environments (beach assaults, river assaults, marsh and jungles).

Mountain
Mountain Troops are an elite branch of the Infantry, specifically trained for operations in mountainous terrain. They make use of specialized equipment and tactics to give them an edge over regular Infantry in such environments (mountains, hills, forests, snow and frozen).

Paratroops
Paratroopers are an elite branch of the Infantry, specifically trained to either parachute to the ground or be ferried to a battle in gliders. Their rapid deployment capability makes them ideal for use as a mobile reserve or for use in capturing a strategic asset behind enemy lines. However, they are handicapped by a lack of heavy equipment due to their mode of travel.

Cavalry
Cavalry are able to move fairly rapidly over most types of terrain and do not require a supply of fuel to operate unless they are Semi-Motorized Cavalry or higher, but they are lightly armed when compared with armored units, and the automatic weapons of the time can inflict devastating casualties to both men and horses. That is not to say that Cavalry is useless, they are still excellent when deployed in partisan suppression roles, mobile reserves and in areas with low infrastructure except for Desert, where they suffer considerable penalty in.

Motorized
Motorized Infantry make use of wheeled vehicles, such as trucks, to maneuver more rapidly than basic Infantry. But they are limited to roads and so their performance may suffer in provinces with low infrastructure levels.

Mechanized
Mechanized Infantry are equipped with all-terrain vehicles, such as the half-track, which does not limit them to roads as with Motorized Infantry and allows them to work well with armored units. However, the specialist equipment they require means their cost is high.

Light, Medium and Heavy Armor
Armored units allow real projection of power on the battlefield. Their speed and firepower make them by far the most lethal units in open field battles, they have penalties when fighting in forests, swamps, urban and mountain terrains. Light Armor sacrifices protection and firepower for mobility and costs the least, Medium Armor seeks the balance of protection and firepowers with mobility and costs. Heavy Armor sacrifices some mobility for protection and firepower and costs the most.

Armored units have two Achilles heels, one is their dependence of a constant supply of oil, if supply lines are severed armored units will become next to useless, the other is their vulnerability from air attacks, especially from CAS aircrafts.

Super Heavy Armor
Super Heavy Armor is so radical that it deserves to be listed separately from regular Armored units.
Super Heavy Armor sports enormous firepower and protection but sacrifices so much of its mobility that it has become slower than foot Infantry, as such it is practically useless offensively except from breaking through fortified enemy lines, defensively SH Armor functions as mobile fortification, though if overrun it has little chance to successfully retreat. Super Heavy Armor's slow speed makes them extremely easy targets from air attack and even though these monsters would likely survive anything short of a perfect hit their extreme price tag will likely mean that they wont be a common picture on the battlefield.

Spoiler Sea Units Description :
Submarines
The Submarine is designed to travel underwater allowing it to operate clandestinely against other naval units. Its main armament consists of torpedoes which are deadly against all other types of vessel, be they Carrier, Battleship, Naval Transport or another Submarine. However, the Submarine can be handicapped by a short range and new technologies to improve them can be expensive.

Destroyers
The Destroyer is the smallest and the fastest of the surface ships. It is lightly armed, but its speed and maneuverability allow it to provide a good first line of defense away from the main capital ships of a fleet, and its light guns are useful for engaging aircraft. Destroyers are usually combined in groups and used for convoy escort and anti-submarine duties.

Light Cruiser
Light Cruisers are little more than large destroyers. They are usually lightly armored to give good speed and range. They are normally used in an escort role for capital ships like battleships or carriers, granting protection mainly from enemy air attacks, but also from enemy submarines.

Heavy Cruiser
Heavy Cruisers are larger and more heavily armored than their lighter counterparts. They have larger main guns, giving them the ability to bombard enemy units on land. They are effective against enemy surface ships, especially destroyers and light cruisers, but are susceptible to air and submarine attacks.

Battlecruiser
Battlecruisers are very heavy cruisers that combine large main guns and medium reasonable with good speed and a good range. They are mainly used against enemy shipping lanes, able to outrun enemy battleships and able to outfight convoy escorts.

Battleship
The Battleship is the Queen of the Sea. It is a massive floating gun platform, designed primarily to engage enemy capital ships at long range and send them to the bottom of the ocean. However, they are now vulnerable to air or submarine torpedo attacks, and the advent of the Aircraft Carrier has started to number their days. Super Heavy Battleships are basically Battleship with additional armor and larger guns.

Light Carrier
Light Carrier are usually created from large vessels originally build for other purposes, mainly from large WW1 era ships that are considered obsolete and not worth upgrading, light carriers are usually used in escort and naval patrol duties.

Carrier
The Aircraft Carrier is rapidly becoming the most important naval vessel. Its ability to project power through the aircraft it carries makes it dangerous to other capital ships and land forces. However, the ship itself is only lightly armed and must rely on other naval units, as well as its own aircraft, to afford it protection.

Transports
Naval Transports are used for moving supplies and resources around the world. They can also be used to ferry land units across stretches of water. They are completely unarmed and, unless well protected, will be vulnerable to attack by other naval units or aircraft.

Spoiler Air Units Description :
Interceptors
Interceptors are short-range fighters designed to destroy enemy bombers. They have high speed and good maneuverability to make them agile enough to evade the machine guns of the bombers, while having the firepower needed to disable a heavy, armored bomber. Against enemy fighters, they are less effective yet they still put up a good fight.

Fighters
Fighters are the backbone of any air force. The have moderate range and are the best aircrafts for air-to-air combat. Their primary role is achieving air superiority: destroying enemy fighters and denying airspace to enemy bombers.

Escort Fighters
Escort Fighters are long-range fighters, designed to escort bombers and keep enemy interceptors from the bombers. They are drilled in tactics to achieve this mission and receive a bonus when escorting bombers. In Air Superiority missions, they are less effective.

Close Air Support
Close Air Support is the key to the blitzkrieg tactic. These planes have the ability to strike precisely at enemy units, enabling your ground forces to achieve a rapid breakthrough. They are slow, sturdy planes and this makes them an easy target for enemy fighters.

Tactical Bombers
Tactical Bombers are medium-sized aircraft, larger than Fighters, yet smaller than Strategic Bombers, which are used primarily for delivering attacks against enemy ground units such as Armour and Infantry. Unlike close air support aircraft, it is also capable of taking up limited strategic bombardment roles, such as runway cratering or strikes against defensive installations. Although they have a limited dog-fighting capability, they can be easily outmatched by Fighters in air combat.

Naval Bomber
The Naval Bomber is designed for use over water and make accurate tactical strikes against enemy surface vessels using torpedoes or armor-piercing bombs. They have a limited dog-fighting capability, which makes them vulnerable if intercepted by fighters.

Strategic Bombers
Strategic Bombers are the heaviest type of aircraft, designed to deliver a large payload of bombs to enemy provinces, with the aim of crippling his industry, infrastructure, and defensive installations. However, the Strategic Bomber is slow despite its long range, which can make it vulnerable to attack by fighters.

Transport Planes
Transport Planes are designed to ferry men and materials over long distances quickly. Paratroops need Transport Planes in order to make a paradrop.

Flying Bomb
The Flying Bomb (e.g. the German V1) is a unmanned aircraft powered by an early jet engine, designed to deliver a payload of explosives to an area target. It is slower than a rocket or missile, which means that it can be intercepted and shot down by enemy fighters.

Strategic Rocket
The Rocket or Ballistic Missile (e.g. the German V2) is designed to deliver a payload of explosives to a distant target. Its high speed makes it almost impossible to intercept but it is an expensive way of destroying the enemy with conventional explosives. Nuclear weapons are needed to give it more than psychological effect.

No matter, that is what makes it great. I will reserve the United States.

How are you going to keep track of all that military detail?

I will reserve Italy anyway, and hope that this is great. I know you have the capability to make it great Feanor ;)

EDIT: I personally would axe the oil stat...you already have a boatload of stats to keep up with, hopefully updating them is some kind of sadistic fun for you :p

Sounds fun. I'll probably join up.

Finland please!

I would like to be either Mexico, Greece or France :) Oh and or Soviet Union of course.

How are you going to keep track of all that military detail?

Mostly hard work

I also plan to use some tokens on the map to display certain things (major ports, airfields, radars, AA, Industry, Army HQ's and Fleets).

Added costs stats for Air and Sea units

I'd like some suggestions/feedback on how to solve the following things:

Should Democracies have a negative peacetime IC modifier?

How much (if any) negative population and industry modifier should France and Great Britain have to properly simulate that they cant fully use the population and industry of their Colonies. the same formula will be applied to nations occupying "non-core" territory

And if anyone could help me with the map i'd be grateful, i made one years ago with decent borders but i'd like one with cities too.
Spoiler MAP :

feanor1936rivers.png

EDIT: Added a Glossary

EDIT #2: Added nations rulers and political alignment

EDIT #3: Added dissident stat to nations that start with dissident

EDIT #4: Begun adding backgrounds on post #3

I've decided not to have nations backgrounds, this is an historical nes so any player can find their nations background in history books (or wikipedia etc.)

There must be a map set up for this with citys etc?

I'll take South Africa please

There must be a map set up for this with citys etc?

I'll take South Africa please

If anyone could provide for a good map with 1936 borders and cities i'd be grateful (i will eventually make one myself in none is presented, but thats not a priority now)

i intend to use higher detail maps for "Hot Spots"

I've decided that Technologies and troops deployments will be secret, progress and detailed losses will be pm'ed to players after updates

Cuba please.

It seems im going to Co-Mod Daftpanzer's 1936 NES so im gonna put this NES in the freezer for an indefinite amount of time

@Fëanor, I only just noticed this :o

Im still not sure what im doing with my 1936 NES, I don't want to cause trouble for you...

This seems like a better NES than mine :) Except I would advise against too much detail in the military stats. From my experience... I dove in at the deep end with my DNES1 game, and had all kinds of detailed military stats, and it was a real pain to update, much more than I anticipated. I've been simplifying things in my NESs ever since. Maybe I simplified them too much tho :)

before putting this into the freezer i had decided to simplify the military into 2 branches for the army and air force (Infantry/Motorized and Fighters/Bombers) and four for the Navy (capitol ships/screens/submarines/transports)
