I know someone out there is bound to have an educated opinion. They seem pretty much the same to me, except XM has the NHL . . .

XM has Hockey and Baseball and used to have Nascar.

Sirius has The Howard, Football (NFL), Basketball (at least college), and Nascar.

Both have lots of commercial free music.

Sirius is my choice by a long shot.

The only things you listed that I care about would be the commercial free music and Hockey. Does either have the monopoly on SEC football?

I am not really a sports fan, but a quick google indicates that Sirius carries some SEC Football games.

Howard Stern is great. About half of Stern's fan are college educated professionals who listen for the sarcastic commentary and biting interviews. The other are immature jerks who listen for the T&A.

I'm familiar with Howard Stern and he neither offends nor interests me.

Honestly, "a few SEC football games" might outweigh "an exclusive NHL deal", for me at least . . .

It could be all of them for all I know, or it may just be important games. To be honest I had no idea what SEC even was until I googled.

I scanned fan sites for both services, and each was convinced that the other was on the verge of getting exclusive SEC rights

There is a lot of mis-information out there. I just learned that Sirius's NFL deal is not exclusive and that XM could also broadcast, but it would be very expensive.

It also looks like 10 out of 12 SEC schools have contracts with Sirius through 2007.

Sometimes Sirius will broadcast both the home and away coverage of games. Its neat to listen to your teams coverage even if you don't live in the right market.

XM has ACC, Big 12, and Pac 10 sports, Baseball, Hockey, and much more. I love XM Radio, go for it. :goodjob:

I've useid both, I don't really listen to sports on the radio much or the talk channels, though, and I think Sirius has better music. Also 24 BBC News.

Sirius Pure Jazz 72 and Sirius Blues 74 rock the casbah.

You're forgetting my 50 year old Dad. :crazyeye:

But yeah, choose Sirius.

It's far from a done deal.
Federal Communications Commission rules prohibit a pairing of the two and
likely Justice Department concerns over the antitrust implications of the only
two players in an industry becoming one.

Generally, whenever there's a 5% spread or more on a merger deal chances are it will fall apart. There's also precedence with Echostar and DirecTV deal falling apart which would have made them a monopoly.
