The Newbie Nightmare
Being somewhat unhappy with the way that unit promotions interact, I've decided to share my own modification. All new promotions come with button art.

Installing will overwrite your original unit promotions file. Sorry, couldn't do this with a module. A backup is provided if you wish to revert.

Quick & dirty xml patch that changes the promotions. Complete with button art for new promotions.
Install to your A New Dawn directory, e.g.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn
The following are new or modified promotions (these replace existing effects):
Guerilla 1
- no change (i.e. +25% defense in hills)
Guerilla 2
- +25% defense in hills
- +30% defense in peaks
Guerilla 3
- +50% attack in hills
- +30% attack in peaks
Woodsman 1
- +10% combat vs. animals
- +25% defense in forest & jungle
Woodsman 2
- +15% combat vs. animals
- +25% defense in forest & jungle
- double move in forest & jungle
woodsman 3
- +20% combat vs. animals
- +50% attack in forest & jungle
Warmth 1
- immune to terrain damage by desert
- +25% defense in desert
Warmth 2
- double move in desert
- +25% defense in desert
Warmth 3
- +50% attack in desert
Cold 1
- immune to tundra damage
- +25% defense in snow
Cold 2
- double move in tundra & snow
- immune to snow damage
- +25% defense in snow
Cold 3
- +50% snow + tundra attack
Fieldsman 1
- +15% defense in plains & grassland
- -15% defense in forests, jungle & hills
Fieldsman 2
- +15% defense in plains & grassland
- -15% defense in forests, jungle & hills
Fieldsman 3
- +30% attack in plains & grassland
- -30% attack in forests, jungle & hills
Wetback 1
- +25% defense in swamp & marsh
Wetback 2
- double move in swamp & marsh
- +25% defense in swamp & marsh
Wetback 3
- +50% attack in swamp & marsh
There appears to be no way to mitigate feature terrain damage, otherwise I would have done that too.
