I recently upgraded from ME to XP Professional and now everytime I try to start the game the screen turns black and I can't do anything.
I can't even retun to XP with Alt+Tab, using the windows start bar buttonon my keyboard or CTRL+Alt+Deleting.
Can anybody help me?:confused:

Have you downloaded the XP driver for your Graphics card?

this may help.

Tell me how it went

Well I managed to "bypass" the problem by replacing the intro.bik file with an empty .txt file which I then renamede to intro.bik. And now it works!!!!
:D :D :D

You could try the win2K bink file on the cd, Theres a seperate version to work with win2000 that fixed a problem on my 2K box. although xp had no problems. I suggest the latest drivers and a full windows update.

In Civilization3.ini add the following lines:

Keepres=1
Video Mode=1024

That will solve it.

I hope....

I had exactly the same problem and solved it by:
right clicking the Civ3 icon
select 'Properties'
select 'Compatability'
choose to run the game in Win98/Win ME mode.

Mind you, I still have a few problems:
foreign adviser screen - coloured lines indicating alliances/wars are inverted

My fighters never intercept enemy bombers. (Although once my fighter shot down an enemy fighter which was attacking one of my bombers - is this right?)

Ah well............

I have tried all that stuff u guys said but i get to the now and get now and the main screen is like cut into million lil peices. it might be that my computer wont turn to 1024x768 pixel but my computer wont change soo i dont know. I NEED TO PLAY THIS GAME

Put

Refresh=60

in your civilization3.ini file. You don't need the KeepRes or Video Mode line.
