Yeah, but it's a dry heat

Would you prefer hotter and drier or cooler and damper (but same comparable HI)

I saw 122 one weekend in the California desert...it was mind bending. Opening the door felt like checking something in the oven. You could literally feel your eyes dry out.

Exactly like. Just a blast of heat in your face.

The human body is amazing. Under controlled conditions--no metal, no hair, minimal air movement, low humidity--people can survive at over 200° C (400° F). They literally cooked a steak in the same room.

I live right smack in the middle of the great lakes... it's always humid here, in the summer.

I'd prefer it to be warmer but drier. that would be awesome.. I don't care if it's 45C, if it's just not as humid as it usually is. The humidity is what makes me want to swear at clouds.

Having experienced years of both, I have to go with dry. The worst part about high humidity for me is feeling like I just got out of a shower all the time. Though I do have to say, ideal would be both cooler and wetter, maybe 77F with 30-40%. The cold and dry winters really bother my nose and throat.

It doesn't even feel like getting out of a shower, though. At least that is a clean feeling for a bit, even if you took a hot shower. Walking outside into oppressive humidity is more like walking into aerosolized (is that a word?) dog slobber or something. It's just hideous.

Okay, that's a winner.

Award for 'description of high humidity that really puts the essence into words' goes to bhsup.

Hehe, thanks! Surely you agree with it, yes? It's really quite a bit worse than taking a hot, steaming shower. Those at least involve soaps that are cleansing you.

Oh I absolutely agree with it! I will in fact be stealing your description unashamedly, though we need to work out this 'aerosolized' thing...maybe. Actually, I'll list that as 'if it isn't a word it ought to be' and just roll with it.

Checking now...

Okay, we're golden. Merriam-Webster says we've been in the clear since 1944.
