Others around me claim that I'm obsessed with CIV just because I've been known to play for over 40 hrs straight without a break.

Wow, first to reply. You should see the 1000 clues you've been playing too much Civ. Im a student so have a lot of free time, and reckon i put in about an hour a day

np, it's pretty good for a while, but obviously people quit reading them all before posting, so some obvious clues are repeated later on.

In an old thread I think I recall it being an average of 10-20 hours. Many of the players are actually adults, not teens - so this thing called "life" gets in the way, and in some cases "families" or "wives." For those destined for dying alone (like myself), in school, or whatever - obviously the hours would increase some, especially with the coming summer. All in all, gameplay has slowed though, especially since the series is likely done until Civ4 comes out (no more expansions).

Oh, and if you're one of the 'sleep & bathe' one's - it's ok, we all start there!

I wouldn't be surprised if the one's most dedicated to the game now are the modders. After all, they are the one's supplying the new material for the next 2 years or so.

i'm just wondering how can you guys control your play time. i'm currently a graduate student in chemistry... i always find once i start a game i won't be able to do anything until i finish that game.. so i have deleted that game at least three times this semester so that i could focus on my research. but after 1 month i couldn't resist the temptation and then install it...

Yes, Sourboy, I agree it is an amusing thread, though a bit long.
I don't think it needs to be continued here, I think the link serves the purpose. Thanks for the info, It will be interesting to see if 10-20 hrs. still holds true.

Gahhh, I hardly ever play Civ anymore thanks to AP classes and overall apathy. I do need to play again....

Usually about 3 hours per day, but sometimes I go to a friends house or something, so I would say about 12 hours per week.

in human terms i play 3 hours per week

When in the grip of a full-fledged CIV obsession i have played 60+ hours per week, in addition to full time employment and about 5 hours on the forums. This in addition to full family life (married with three college age children.) This cannot be sustained, obviously, so my norm is 2 hours/weeknight plus about 12 over the weekend.

I think I qualify as fanatic. I am playing Demi now and may be over my head, as the micro-managing is getting a bit burdensome.
