Youngest Civer?

if i used to play civ 1 at 18 y. old, and played on my commodore 64 at 8, how old am I? :D

Almost as old as I am?

I was probably about 10 or something when I first played Civ2.

Civ 2 at age 8 or 9.

My older one insisted that he wanted a go at the age of six.
I relented, and let him play one. He actually won pretty fast.
Obviously it took quite a lot of supervision since he couldn't actually read.
I think that's a minimum requirement for playing the game independently, being able to read.

I started playing Civ DOS either the year it was released or the year after, which would have been 1991 or 92. It came in a software bundle with a flight/fight simulator game called "Mantis." I first beat the game soundly after about a week of trial and error. After about two months of slogging it out and beating the pathetic AI a number of ways, I developed the mass-chariot strategy. How ridiculously unbalanced was that?

Anyway, so I was 6 or 7.

By the way, this probably needs a new thread, but did anyone else encounter a bug in CivDOS that wrought havoc upon their game? I distinctly remember being the Zulu civilization and having a city of population size 7, doing about 1000 production per turn. The south pole of the map was covered by random mines and roads...I recall being 8 and thinking that Aliens had invaded my planet.

Enough woolgathering. Back to Civ 3.
