My two favourites are also the most powerful civilizations in real world history.
No they're not.
S***. Probably just derailed the thread.
On-topic, <3 Greece, particularly Pericles. Great builder/techer leader (not the greatest at either, but very good at both) and phil/odeon are great together for culture wins – and of course the bonuses from CRE help quite a bit too.
I'd play as Carthage just because Carthage was awesome, but being a great civ certainly helps! Despite the hate, I find NC rushes great, and those traits combined with Cothon are a huge help. Not quite as easy as Darius I, but almost (plus you don't have to play as a Bloodthirsty Turk™

.
Portugal ranks up there too, because I love expanding quickly, and between traits and UU, João is one of the best, if not
the best (although you need to be quick on the cottages and COL). Feitorias fit in quite well too, although it would be nice if they came a bit earlier.
Like Bismarck quite a bit. The uniques, admittedly, are bad (4 engineers instead of 2? really?), but the traits really suit my style, and, well, he's OTTO van FREAKING BISMARCK.
And Hatshepsuth. My god, I really do have an unhealthy hat fixation, don't I.
