Another religious thread for you:

Who is your favorite Saint, and why?

Mine is St. Francis of Assissi, because I think he came the closest to understanding and living a Christlike existence. In Italian art he is often called 'the second Christ' or the 'the other Christ' and he was the first to receive the stigmata. His kindness to animals, his rejection of ostentatiousness, his turning from a potential life of wealth to the life of a humble beggar are all very inspirational. How close a thing was his Sainthood- in different eras he might have been derided as a dangerous heretic or communist...

The best film to watch of his life is called "Brother Sun, Sister Moon"; you have to put up with hippy ballads but it gets the story across much better than the later Mickey Rourke vehicle Francesco...

I'll accept Islamic and other religion's saints for this category, so fire away...

My favorite Saint is Duece McAlister the running back. Dante Stallworth the wide receiver is good too.

PS OK. I'll give you a straight answer. Augustine.

I like St. Francis...I used his prayer when I did the prayer for our HS graduation ceremony...it was actually "non-religious" enough to serve pretty well.

My wife used to be catholic. She informed me a few days ago that "Tony" (St. Antony) is the Saint of Lost Items or something like that. I'd have to pick him as forgetful as I am.... :)

Thanks for the links, Ozscott. :goodjob:

I'm not a Cathlioc, but my favorite saint is probably Paul the Apostle.

Is sexual temptation close enough?

If so:
Angela of Foligno
Catherine of Siena
Margaret of Cortona
Mary of Edessa
Mary of Egypt
Mary Magdalen
Mary Magdalen of Pazzi
Pelagia of Antioch

What did Catherine of Siena do? i thought she was pretty pious...
I like St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers.

St. Christopher isn't a saint anymore. Somebody went through the records and discovered that this dog headed man who ferried Jesus across the river was actually an Egyptian god hiding out in disguise and he was decanonized awhile back.
