Your favourite private tweaks of the Warhammer mod?

I've been playing WH2.5 since the day my heroes mrtn and aaglo released it, and I've played all the previous incarnations too and loved it! Despite its excellence and balance, after a while and some 10-12 games I simply cannot keep my greedy little paws away from tweaking the mod: adding units, buildings, govs, techs, and so on.
For example; to make my fiancée happy I've added more resource graphics in the form of animals, and more animal units accessible to her favourite civs, and Wonders like the 'Wildhorse Sanctuary' and the 'Monochrome Bear Farm'. Yes, you've guessed it: she likes animals (which is probably why she puts up with me!).

I don't play the figurine game (I'm a crappy painter!) so I don't really care if my tweaks are incompatible with the official credo. In my own view the WH mod is greater than that; it's an excellent generic fantasy background that could be further enriched by each one of us separately after our own tastes.

Now I'm seeking inspiration from you hardcore civvers out there. I know our esteemed WH connoisseur Stormrage has his own Civ colour scheme he prefers, and I think I'll try that. Any other ideas? What is YOUR favourite private tweak of WH2.5?
 
You mean Kinboat's Monochrome Bears, right? :crazyeye: Thanks Ed, I'll take that on this time. I've done a LOT of Civ tweaking in my time, but only added a civ twice or thrice. I remember that meant a lot of new graphic entries in the pediaicons file...

Color Changes:

1.Dwarfs - Norsca Grey - they like steel!
2.Norsca - Bretonnia Green - it had to go somewhere :mischief:
3.Bretonnia - Dwarf Blue - Blue is such a knightly color
4.Nippon - BoC green - again, had to go somewhere, but it turned out great
5.Boc - Orc Black - much "nicer" than before
6.Orcs - Albion Dark Green - its the color of Black Orcs!
7.Albion - Lahmia Copper - turned out pretty nice! Less confusion with Bretonnia Green on maps.
8.Lahmia - Nippon Red - blooooodd...
9.Amazons - Ind Purple - girly color for a girly civ
10.Ind - Arab Yellow/Green - well, they have to have a color.. I liked it in the end :)
11. Araby - Amazon Green - I`m always associating that shade of green with Araby, so they finaly got it. Greeks, yeah, right :crazyeye:

12. I gave the Imperial swordsman to Sylvania, instead of Tilea.
13. I gave the Bretonnia its old swordsman back, and the Battle Pilgrim is just enslaved by the G.Knight
14. Norsca got a regular Horseman instead of the Marauder
15. Utahjazz7`s Qin for Cathay Footman, and Asian Swordsman for Infantry
16. Utah`s Easterling for Kislev Infantry
17. Added Religious to Reikland to make it the most powerfull realm of men (3 traits!). Did the same with Chaos (Expansionist), to make them the biggest threat.
18. Gave Cathay, Ungol, Ind and Dolgans a new Dragon, Golden one by Grandraem.
19. "Orientals" now use the same system as other civs, as far as magic units are concerned - the same gfx "rule". Abu-bakr for Araby, Temujin for Ungols, Ungol Enchanter to Ind (doesn`t look quite barbaric, Temujin fits better ;)), and Cathayan Wizard and Nippon Mage change places, the tall hat just screams Cathay :D
20. Rock Lobba and Spear Chukka change places. Balista to Catapult.
21. Removed Sooside Bomma, the gfx is clearly futuristic, if it was a wooden barrell of gunpowder, then I`d keep it :D
22. Removed Slinger, pretty much pointless, and just rubbs my vision of WH the wrong way ;)
23. Removed Saurus Gunner (:shake:)
24. Dom Pedro`s Hun becomes the Ungol Soldier, and since it has a bow, it has def.bomb., giving them an extra kick.

Thinking of:
1. Giving CamJH`s Waterseeker as somekind of Araby DoW unit, I really don`t like them having Elephants, even tho the Warmaster game has it on the list. I wan`t it to be an Indic Special. I also have to replace it with something for Lahmia, but am still searching.
2. I`m waiting, and waiting for some good Indian Cavalry, there`s just way to much Camels IMO, only Araby should have 2 Camel units.
3.I`m thinking of giving the Orc Arrer Boyz to Orcs only. Not sure yet.

Wishing for:
1.I want to add a Fantasy unit to Nippon, an empty suit of armor unit would be cool, I got the idea from one of Vagrant Story`s for PS monsters.
2. I want to add a Rakshasa unit to Ind

Heh, you're more of a purist than me :D
But some of those tweaks I'll definitely use! I could never remove the Saurus Gunner though, she would never forgive me that :whipped:
What values did you give your golden dragon, i.e. what did you do to separate it from the others? Longer bombard range?
 
Id like it if someone took on the full pedia for Warhammer. For guys like me, who don't know their 'wizards smoke' from their 'pipe weed'.( Im guessing their two of the same. But, theirs no discription for Pipe weed! so I presume it may just be some good weed :) )

.and what about all those cool wonders and techs? I don't know jack about any thing Im improving on or learning(theres nice Oxy) I mean in Rise n Rule I could have understood what each of the tech icons stood for without the help of any discription nature like the store bought Pedia setup, but they wrote some anyway to keep with the polished feel I imagine.
When it comes to fantasy stuff, having some details along the way would have been cooler for us not famiiar with Warhammer but who where still drawn in cuz of its 1st class production.

anyway just calling for a custum updated pedia if anyone feels like sharing their knowledge. (at least for the tech tree)
 
i was considering replacing the old human spearman with embyro's new spearman and i really like alot of storms changes and im probably gonna do it

D`y a guys mind telling me what changes you liked? And what you have against the ones that you didn`t?

The Golden Dragon is just like a Red one for now, its one of my recent changes, cos I only just found out about Grandraem`s nice recolor job.

Bigdog, I`ll post a link once I`ve found it again. But it will be replaced by Orthanc`s Asian Dragon, provided that he makes it in this decade, and it turns out "realisticly fantastic (:crazyeye:)" enough :)

I, too, have considered ED`s spearman, but I kinda like how the current spearman and swordsman form a team :) I know we have the new Empire Swordsman thats totally different from the spearman, but thats just to.. WH, to pass :D

I think Bretonnia might use ED`s other spearman as a Man-at-Arms unit with 6.6.1. stats, replacing the current one, and the Bretonnian Halberdier.. but I dunno yet.

I agree with all of the above. Good calls everyone of them.

Agree, and it looks good in the dark blue too.

Agree, I'm all for the idea of having units only available through enslavement.

Well, sort of agree: of course a blond-bearded axewielding horseman should be available to Norsca! But I take it a step further: I swap the Horseman and Marauder Horseman graphics.

Agree if you mean the one with the big axe, but disagree if you mean the one in golden armour mislabeled as Easterling by Utah (of course you mean the big axe guy! :D).

Agree, I also like to see these civs powerful even though I don't care about the WH gospel. Chaos always seems to need a helping hand in my games...

Disagree is a too strong word, I just can't be bothered to make this change.

Disagree, it's obviously a wooden barrel with slabs of tin bolted on in order to prevent fire arrows from setting fire to it ;) and it makes good gameplay too!

Disagree, it comes in very handy as an early offensive unit with def.bomb. to help against the barbs.

Disagree strongly! This unit is a must! And the little one is so cute... :love:

Agree, perfect as their basic grunt.

Nah, I would rather give elephant and camel units to more civs to give alternatives to the horse cavalry. Don't care what GW says.

Agree with the wishlist, that's some cool and usable fantasy units.
4. Ogre Kingdoms
Disagree with the notion of an Ogre civ, I like the mercenary system now just fine, and I'm especially fond of the high disappearance ratio that makes them wander around between the civs.
5. Hobgoblins!
Disagree with a Hobbo civ, keep'em with the Chaos Dwarves. That mix is a big part of the Crazybeard charm.

Actually, thats just my vision, GW doesn`t say anything about it ;)

The other day, I was thinking of splitting the Orcs and the Gobbos, and maybe making the Chaos Dwarfs a bit more self-sufficient.

I was also thinking of adding an Ogre civ, who would only have a few units, but those units would be powerul. The biggest advantage here would be that the AI would only have about 1 off. unit and 1 def. unit, anyway! :p

Yep, that's about the right amount of unit types for the AI to administer... :D
What existing units could be used for this? Aaglo's three ogres and what else? His Stone Giant perhaps?
 
There`s LMR!`s Gnoblar, for one. I`m not so keen on the Giant, I while ago, I wanted him to go to Albion, but now I think that it just looks too different from other giants..


V_C, please speak more of your ideas, for O&G too! :)

Some more to think about:


1.Name change - Reikland to Empire

2.Kislev gets cavalry (Russian Knight by Bebro), Horse Archer moved to DoW

3.Bretonnia no longer has access to Halfling Mercenary

4.Bretonnia becomes Agricultural instead of Religious. (5% knights, 95% peasansts)

5.Estalia becomes Religious instead of Agricultural (nobody expects the Estalian Inquisiton! And it helps to tone down their annoying owerpowering)

6.Ind becomes Religious instead of Agricultural (its based on the land of a thousand gods! And they too tend to be owerpowered. Bastards!)

7.Red Wyvern to Lahmia, Green one to Orcs. Both can be found in the Mystara mod, I don`t know if they were released otherwise.
 
Speaking of the Ogre Kingdoms, i was experimenting with a civ back when WH2.2 (or whatever the version previous to 2.5 was) first came out. my units were something like this:

Ogre Bull - aaglo's Ogre Bull
Irongut - aaglo's Irongut
Leadbelcher - duh... aaglo's leadbelcher :crazyeye:
Gnoblar Fighter - my Gnoblar :D
Slave Giant - ED's ogre
Tyrant - kindred's Guardian Troll

i also think i was using the Fantasy Squiggoth as a Gnoblar Scraplauncher, and the Lowland Giant as a Butcher, but i cant remember that far back :)

-Orc Archer (Military Training)
-Orc Warrior (Smithing)

"Goblin" Orc units:
