I'm not sure exactly what it was, but there is a little label on it that says "Nova Personal Computer". I think it was made sometime in the 80's.

I remember a couple of the richer kids getting computers in the early 1980's, complete with a tape deck as a storage device. 
I didn't buy my first computer until I my first duty assignment in the military, in Korea in 1993. It is apropos to post it on this site because the only reason I bought it was to play Civ I.

My first real computer was a 450 MHz, 64 RAM, 4 GB HD Daewoo machine (Advice: never buy a Daewoo). My current rig is a ~2 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HD Compaq, a replacement for a similar refurbished HP rig with a faulty CD-ROM drive. If I even get any money and some technical expertise, I try upgrading the current computer and maybe even try to build my own...

That must have been pretty powerful at the time! My (family's) first computer had similar specs, but we bought it about two years later. It was an incredibly sturdy Olivetti with a 100 MHz Pentium processor. It's still fully functional. I'm actually using the monitor, an old 15" CRT, now as my second monitor besides my laptop.Odin2006 said:

A bit later, in 1985-86 my dad built a new office for his company and even then a computer was something very special. It got a room of it's own in the office, to make sure it wouldn't get disturbed shaking (someone walking past) or dust or other dangerous thing that breaks computers.

Mine was a commodore64. It was used mainly for games. I think it was given to us by an uncle of ours.
Like Eyrei and VRWCAgent, my first was a TI-99/4a. Cartridge slot (for games, pretty much) and a tape deck for saving/loading programs. FFing/rewinding to the right part of the cassette tape and typing load or save (then hitting play or record) is an aspect of computing that I'll never miss.

Commodore 64, with four games. A racing game, a golf game, one really odd olympics game and an other game where you ran around and killed robots. Even in the late 90's me and a couple of friends used to bring it up from the basement once in a while to play those games, ah the nostalgia 
. Unfortunately the deskstation finally gave up around ten years ago and I gave away what was still working to a friend of mine who collect such things as a hobby.

My first was this 386 compaq portable from the mid 80s. 12MB Ram and a 20 MB hard drive. I still have it.

My family's first computer was a Dell 386 machine. Can't remember any of the technical specifications since I was too young to really care. It was awesome though. It came with Windows 3.1 and had Civilization I and Colonization installed.
The first computer I personally owned was made by a small manufacturing called Axis system which has been out of business since 2000. It had a Pentium II processor running at 333mhz, 64mb of memory (I added 256 mb later on for a total of 320mb), and an 8mb video card. Despite the terrible reputation of the afformentioned company, the only hardware I had to replace was a CD drive.
The machine still works and is in my old room. It has some problems though, the mouse is nearly shot, some keys on the keyboard are a little unresponsive, and the internal battery is dead (every time I start the computer the date is set at Jan. 1, 1998). I really want to sell it, but I don't think I could even give it away.
The first laptop I own was given to me by my brother several months ago. His work place no longer wanted it so I got it for free. It has a Pentium II processor running at 400mhz, 256mb of ram, and a 4mb video card. It's great for surfing the web and word processing, bit is rather heavy on comparison with current laptops. It weighs just under 15 pounds.

I was too young to ever get it to work.. every time i started the game, all i got was a black screen with a little wagon in the middle...
I didn't think anything of it... but after my Civ3 addiction, i find it a little odd.
