Your First Game

Probably Greece on 'easy' in semi-historical Mediterranean.
Always fun to play survivor against Rome.

Here's another question folks: Will you dive into the instruction manual (probably 200 or so pages) and try to learn everything, or play by the seat of your pants?

I'll probably jump right in, but over the next few weeks, memorize the instruction manual. :D

Play by the seat of my pants. Unless I really get stuck on something.

Go into town, buy the game, have a quick read of the instruction manual on bus home, then play! :D

Its an esay question. My first game in all versions of Civ has been England and I see no reason to change at my age :D. I don't yet know which leader I will pick, but it will probably be Lizzy for old times sake.

If the levels are the same as Civ 3 then I will start at monarch and go for some sort of conquest victory and I will jump straight in, although I might look at the 'If you have played Civ 3' chapter in the manual

oh yeah, first game. dim the lights, light some candles, turn on some barry white. A glass of wine, so Civ 4 is, you know, in the mood.

i'll probably dive right into the game but read through the manual eventually to see if i can pick up on nuances.

After buying the game I'll flip through the manual over lunch or something just to build up my anticipation even more. Then it's off to a 10 hour civ session.

I know I am definately NOT playing on the lowest level. I got too many bad habits when I did it in Civ3 on Chieftain, and it took me a while to move on. I will probably do it on the equivalent of Regent or so.

Sounds a lot like what I'll be doing. But, with my experiences starting Civ 3, I will probably analyze which civilization is best for me to use, and read the manual from cover to cover. When the separate strategy guide comes out (Like the one for Civ 3) I'll get that and read it too, all before I start playing. Then when I do start playing, I'll play until my eyes are bloodshot and I have to sleep to recover my vision.

Germany, Space Race.

I'll probably read the Civilopedia, but not manual. I did the same thing in Civ3 too.

My first game in Civ 3 wasn't very successful; I thought I could use the same strategy as in Civ 2. I believe there will be even more new features :spear: in Civ 4 so this time I'll read the manual very careful.

For my first game I will probably play as Rome or Greece.

I'll probably pick a war-like civilization to try going for a domination victory but end up with a peaceful victory (not sure which yet). That's about the way most of my civ games go.
As for the manual, I'll probably read most of it and keep it close beside me while I am playing. I don't know about you guys, but I found the Civ3 manual kind of interesting. I am easily entertained I guess.

My civ will be whatever I think has the best traits, difficulty will be one or two below the hardest. I'll probably only read the manual for 15 minutes or so getting to know the new features before I start my first game, but I see myself reading the manual from cover to cover after a session or two.

I will play on the hardest level and choose Random civ just to see what the defeat screen will look like and how hard is the AI. So I don't feel bad beating them up on the second game on a lower difficulty level.

Me I will probly play as Greece the first time and Go for whatever win seems most fitting. As for reading the manual the only way i would think of it is while the game is installing.

I'll probably go with my tried and true Egyptians in my first game (though I will try others eventually), playing an easy level, probably Warlord.

Oh, no doubt.

I will read manual carefully, then chose the best civ that I cn think of. Never hurry!

I don't know what Civ I'll be. Possibly France and Napoleon. About time he showed up.

My first game will be on one of the lower levels. I won't aim for any specific victory... I will, however, try to build every wonder just for the sake of seeing the wonder videos, which I have so SORELY MISSED.
