Your "Go-To" Civs

Maybe I'll give Spain a chance again. Just imagine the awesomeness to dig a Solomon Mine + One with nature + Natural Heritage site: 12 :c5production: + 8 :c5faith: + 10 :c5culture: + 500 :c5gold:

bcaiko: Interesting. I also love Japanese history and culture, and that's why I don't like the Civ as presented in the game. ;) While the Sengoku Zidai is, perhaps, the most popularized period of Japanese history, and the classical (Heian, Nara) periods would be China or Korea copies, I think I would have preferred if the Tokugawa period had been used. You would have a VERY different Civ if so, I should think.

Richard: I do like playing with Spain, if only for the ONW Pantheon... ;) Personally, I like finding the Great Barrier Reef most, but whatever works... (generally, I like the food-generating NWs)

Vanilla: Japan
G+K: Byzantines
BNW: France/Brazil

I really liked the Byzantines in G+K because they were so flexible (granted you snagged a religion, which I never had a problem with when I actually tried). For BNW I think it's great that you can now be a warmongering cultural beacon, stealing others civ's arts and artifacts (it belongs in a museum, my museum).

This is an interesting thread...

Here are my favorites:

Vanilla: Arabia, Persia
DLC: Babylon
G&K: Maya
BNW: Greece, Shoshones or Assyria

I have recently tried out Greece in G&K because I got tired of the Maya and find them pretty powerful. I expect them to get a serious buff in BNW by controlling the world congress. Also Shonones will probably become the new top tier for me equal to the Maya, being able to win from any location with any victory type. They simply open up so many possibilities. And because I usually end up warmongering, the Assyrian unique ability will be very powerful against some runaway city spammer like Alex or Hiawatha.

Care to elaborate? I always found them a little lackluster. What are some cool ways to play them?

Go wide. Go Iron. Go Physics. Go Chivalry.
Plant your cities.
Take their cities away with camel archers and swordsman.
Profits :)

Vanilla: Egypt, all the way.
DLC: Never really played Vanilla + DLC enough to have a 'go-to'
G&K: The Mayans - rush like nothing else!:king:

Vanilla: No goto vanilla civ because I didn't finish playing all of them before I got G&K

DLC: Denmark

G&K: Celts

BNW: Poland and Shoshone. Maybe Morocco as well with additional culture and gold from trade routes so I can experience new diplo/trade route/culture mechanics.

Future civs: Inuit because their color scheme and uniques will be awesome.

Persia is one of my favorites too. Anything that give extra happiness is always tempting to me and always finds a use.

Vanilla: Persia and Egypt
DLC: Babylon and Inca
G&K: Byzantium and Ethiopia
BNW: Assyria and Shoshone

Vanilla: Rammeses, Elizabeth, Alexander, Hammurabi
G&K: Catherine, Ramkhanhaeng, Ghangis Khan
BNW: (possibly) Shaka, Catherine, Elizabeth, Maria I

i like the so called "underdogs" to show ppl their power and to start think outside the box. i played more MP then SP.

Vanilla: Arabia and England; although i hated to play England on maps like North vs South; totally cakewalks were France and Incas.

in GnK: Celts, India.

BNW: My favorite on paper will be venice. And im interested how the old culture civs like aztecs e.g. will work. Culture was always very important to me.

Vanilla: France
G&K: still France lol (The first G&K civ i played as were The Maya)

BNW: hmm I think The Shoshone. I'm pretty big on early headstarts, exploration and REX'ing and with France's UA modification, i think they will be my new default Civ :3

Although i'll probably STILL pick France in my first game just to see how their new UA functions in conjuction with the Archaeology/Tourism game mechanics.
