So, which nation and leader are you going to start your first game with? Simple question but the answers can be as complex as you want. :p

I'm yet undecided but I think I'll go with someone who's at least industrious since I like building wonders. :D

Julius Caesar as Rome
(Creative & Expansive)

I'm thinking about playing the Arabs as Saladin. His traits are actually pretty good builder traits, plus I'm sure that there will be plenty of oportunities for war as the Arabs (although its a different game, I often started major wars in the middle ages).

Plus, I'm sure I could get a little roleplay in there as I spread my religion throughout the world by conquering the infidels. ;)

Although, if there are people much better, by the time I get the game, I'm sure I'll know who I'll pick.

I think Gandhi (Industrious and Spiritual, plus a fast worker! Build build build!) or Bismark (industrious and expansive).

Theres no industrious and philosophical! we must wait till the expansion! :gripe:

I think I might turn off traits for my first game, so I can assess strengths and weaknesses before going into specifics. So it's a cosmetic choice anyways...

Gandhi, modded to be Industrious/Philosophical (who needs to wait for an expansion? :) ) Gotta love the fast worker and increased Wonder/Great People production. Will try to get Pacifism as soon as possible to increase Great People production even more. Will probably use them mostly to give techs since I like to blow through the tech tree as quickly as possible, and use the Great Engineers to rush build the occasional wonder. I'm still curious as to how exactly Great People points are generated, and how you can affect which ones you get with Wonders and otherwise. And I'll definitely be playing on Cheiftan for a while I'm sure. :)

Probably Alexander (Aggresive/philosphical) because this will give me A) a good early defensive unit (hopefully) so I won't get massacred in the first game, B) free upgrade so I immediately get to see how that works, and C) +100% chance of great leaders so I also get a chance to see how that works early in the game.

Probably Frederick of the Germans.

He is Creative & Philosophical and I think he suit best my style of game :)

I'm going to play as Romans! How cool does being a praetorian sound as a job description! I'm not sure if Caesar's attributes are CRE and EXP as I am looking at a screenshot from the civ4 setup screen showing Cyrus with CRE and EXP as his attributes... yep double checked that. Maybe Caesar is EXP and ORG?? Suits them both better anyway.

My first game will be on the hardest difficulty. I know i'll do things wrong on the first go so i'd kinda like to see how quickly I can get whooped. :king:

After that first game i'll swing back into the midrange difficulty.

Think I'll go with roosevelt for the first few games.

Mansa Musa of Mali

Caesar´s Romans, for a number of reasons:

- Expansive, with Fishing and Mining Tech seems ideal for my early builder playing style
- Praetorians at ST: 8 pack a punch vs ST:6 Swordsmen and (I hope) will come into play just as the initial REXing phase draws to a close
- Creative means you don´t have to worry too much about being out-cultured by your neighbors if going to war early
- my first games on Civ2 and 3 were also with Romans, so it´s a bit of a tradition (as is getting greased on my first game ... hmmm)

I will be playing at a level that gives no prod bonus to either side.
