Your nation/leader choice for your 1st Civ4 game and why?

I always thought Philosophical/orginized was the best combo-Chinese under Mao.

But after thinking about it further, I think I will go with Japan. Aggressive seems too powerful to pass up. Plus Samurai are COOL!!!

America, as George Washington. Because I'm taking American history this quarter, and will be hitting the revolution about the time the game comes out.

i got 4 choices :
-incans( cause im incan descendant)
-indians(i like gandhi)
-mongols( i like keshik hordes)
-american( cause navy SEALS rock)

Probably random first one- but I really like to put my own name and Civ name in when I play civ3conquests.
usually the Melnaboneans' from the Elric series of books. leader Name-THARN, of course. Title 'Magus' :P
I wonder if civ 4 will allow this too>?

England-Victoria, because that was my 1st game of Civ 3. Except leader was different in the good ole' days.

Romans, Caeser. Tradition, it's what I do every release of Civ.

I'll also probably make my civ Jewish (No reason why, just because I feel like it).

I'll probably play on Continents also.

I think Gandhi (Industrious and Spiritual, plus a fast worker! Build build build!) or Bismark (industrious and expansive).

Theres no industrious and philosophical! we must wait till the expansion! :gripe:

Fast workers move fatser, they don't build faster. Sorry.

Industrious and Pilo would rock. We'll just have to mod someone in.

Funny how many people share this tradition. Ever since I first fired up the original Civ back in January 1992, I've started each game as the Romans. So I'll stick with Caesar and the Romans.

Mali/Mansa Musa

Then America/FDR

I also like this tradition and practice it. It reminds me of the good old days of civ1 and civ2.

Civ3 changed all that  due the the Roman Characteristics (Militaristic & Commercial). Militaristic does not fit my style of play.

I am glad that I can mod them now but my first game will be with Caesar though. His traits Creative and Expansive fits for the moment.

I think I might turn off traits for my first game, so I can assess strengths and weaknesses before going into specifics. So it's a cosmetic choice anyways...
that's a great idea, think i'll do that too.
this way i can see what difference the traits make when i turn em back on in future games.

if you play your first game with an industrious trait, then if you switch later your workers will always seem slow to you (first impressions are important)

:undecide: I can't decide! :undecide:

I think I'll start on the world map, but I'm not even sure about that. I'm attracted to Creative, Philosophical and Expansive so I could go for Caesar, Frederick or Peter to get a good match to my play style. On the other hand, I'm attracted to playing as the Japanese, Chinese and the Greeks for various reasons. The viability of each of these civs on the world map complicates things further. I would also not be surprised if the leader traits turned out to be different to these we're expecting.

I'm studying Japanese history, culture and language at the moment (moving there next year) so I think I'll have to go for them despite the traits not really being up my street and the possibility that the world map will leave them somewhat impotent. Rhye did handle this problem very well in Civ III though, so maybe I'll be in luck.

I'll probably change my mind in 5 minutes anyway! :crazyeye:
