I read a funny comment that really struck a nerve with me the other day -

The perfect IQ is 80. Smart enough to function normally but dumb enough not to notice all the crap in the world. I don't think that's really true (there are plenty of dumb, depressed people) but it still struck a nerve with me.


I think I'd score myself similarly.

I guess kings, queens, tsars and tyrants wouldn't take to kindly to many wizards running around telling people how they are wrong. High IQ is the enemy of conformity

High intelligence is only a survival trait in punctuated equilibrium. During periods of relative stability the nonconformist character of other than normal intellect trends against reproductive success, but during the harsh transitional periods it is such a clear survival benefit that during those intervals it makes for a strong enough factor to make up for the other.

Agreed, but not a reproductive benefit. In "normal times" people prefer "normal" mates.

I believe intelligence is a strong attractive quality in almost all circumstances.

Intelligence without loyalty, or earned moral authority, is a threat. Like, an actual threat that probably needs quarantined or dealt with. Bulwarked, maybe. Intellect does not seem to track with kindness, or morality. It's a measure of ability, or capacity. It can easily be an expression of overall malignancy. Liches are smart.

According to the earlier linked test:

STR: 6
INT: 13
WIS: 11
DEX: 7
CON: 6
CHR: 9

Honestly, I would score CHR lower than 9 assuming this is a standard distribution. Maybe closer to 7. WIS also should be adjusted downwards.

CON, if that means general physical health (?) I would move up to 11-12, again assuming standard distribution.

I wouldn’t put myself two standard deviations away from anything unless there is a neurotic stat.

You need both.

The female will choose the best provider.

The strongest male rock-chucker may not have the best IFF capabilities and start chucking rocks at the female.

The smartest male rock-chucker may be weak and thus ineffective at bear repulsion.

The male rock-chucker who can correctly identify threats and keep bears away will ultimately be the winner.

I agree. Except for Liches and Vampires , Dragons are known to be highly intelligent and malignant as well , especially red and black kind

I have the fortune of working with many people of significant education. As a general rule, I'd rate them as more intelligent than most. The ones that are also kind are very good friends and acquaintances. They're treasures. But they don't seem to be kind any more frequently than anyone else. The capricious and bigoted, the liars, they're horrid nightmares to interact with. The dumb and mean are no treat either, but the smart have increased capacity for cruelty. They use it.

Edit: aren't white dragons the stupid and mean ones?

As I said, in trying times the outright survival advantage more than makes up for the lower desirability due to lack of conformance. I've gotten far more attractive the further the world has progressed towards going to hell in a handbasket.

Ok but rating yourself 8s across means you aren’t rolling for stats but are allocating them and you just started your character creation.

You see guys, this conversation is why I learned to retrain some Int for Wis. At some point you realize you gotta aim the intelligence you have over thinking through some nonviable tangent. People react favorably to this and then your Cha score can rise if you can exercise your extraversion.

I'm not rolling, no. I could go get some dice, but I didn't think that was much the purpose of the question. Once upon a time I was a national merit scholar. I almost made dinky school state in Track and Field. Top three in public speaking for FFA, Illinois. But that means a lot less than I used to think it did. I think that was mostly being obedient and stubborn at the same time. Helped with model rocketry too. Doesn't mean I was smart or charismatic or dextrous. Meant I was good at trying to do things that people would grade.
