Just finished a game as Patchacuti. I think the slinger is meh, but the UA is great. Good for war, scouting AND defense.

The UI is strange though...it's ok if you have a lot of mountains, but normally, it just gives 2/3f, 2h tiles. It should really benefit from fertilizer and civil service.

The Inca are great on highlands maps, as well as PerfectEarth3 and especially Tectonics. Personally I love playing with a lot of large mountain ranges as it creates choke points and increases the tactics for offense and defense, as the AI is actually really good at handling choke points. I think you can get up to +6 food from Terrance Farms on certain hills if there are enough mountains nearby, but it's kinda like playing England on an Archipelago map.

The slinger allows ranged units (they keep the ability when upgraded) to harass and pillage without worrying about spears or pikes killing them. I love em, although it really seems like an ability that should be standard on mounted units.

The Inca are a huge science civ. Two reasons:

1) Well placed terrace farms can produce as much food as any other tile in the game. More food=more people=more science.
2) With start bias you are always going to start near mountains. Since your cities will tend to start near mountains for the terrace farms, you are likely to get a situation where you can build observatories in most or all of your cities.

That is syngergy.

Pacachuti is very well suited for a wide empire due to the UA removing a lot of the cost of roads. Because of this they are great for creating trade route empires, just emphasize growth & happiness and watch the profits come in. Slinger is kinda meh, but does upgrade.

The UI is great if you have any mountains nearby. 2f 2h tiles are good tiles! And 3F/2H tiles are better than anything else available in the game to other civs. And it's not uncommon to have a couple 4F or even 5F tiles...

The most common strat I've used is to peacefully expand using the liberty tree, then buckle down and build up a strong army in the medieval period (using the power of the terrace). Upgrade slingers to crosssbows, then go attack your neighbor and keep expanding your puppet/trade route empire until you're dominating your continent. Use the extra money for culture CS to make up for the expansion.

This is being sarcastic right? I'm in a game where the AI is running thru a choke with a city with a wall to try I guess to attack one of the two cities on the other side that don't have a wall. It's quite hilarious.

hmm well the AI is terrible in offense anyways, but I meant defensively. I've never really had to defend my cities usually, but they're good at placing cities in locations right next to choke points so you can't get more than one or two siege units in range to fire on it, while they keep throwing units at you through their city.

Inca are my favorite civ to play because they are so versatile. I love the UU they are a great money maker and if you take a bit in honor their value is increased in the early game. Since the patch, with the price of archers lowered, rush build/buy four or five slingers and a warrior as a healer and final assault, anyone close is yours.

You can go tall or wide and even both. When the map favors you with mountain clusters +5 and +6 food hills are awesome. Cheap and free roads make large empires a dream.

You can pick your direction, tradition fine, liberty fine, honor fine.

No tips from me... just my "thoughts".

I really like the Incas on a lot of levels. Maybe it's their history, my love of Peru, Pachacuti's name (Pah-chah-koo-tee), or maybe it's because they seem to play quite differently than most of the other Civs.

Edit: I mean they function differently. I'm not referring to how the AI plays them.

to make 4 food 2 hammer tile even better?!?

In the last game I played as the Inca I discovered a hill that had mountains on FIVE sides. I didn't even know that was possible. Unfortunately it was on the other side of the world and the game ended before I had a reasonable chance of getting there.
