In my most recent game I destroyed the Romans, except for their one island city. After declaring peace I look at the diplo screen and it says "You've grown to powerful for us" when hovering over the redded vassal state option. What does this mean?

Out of the several games I've played with warlords I haven't seen a use for vassals. The AI is too stubborn to ever want to become one. It only throws out the option when I'm knocking on the door of their last city with several dozen soldiers.

Has anyone seen any real benifit of vassals (with the AI)?

The "you've grown to powerful for us" seems another diplomatic programming cop out to me.

In a recent game, I had a late game def pact whith Mansa, when one of the bad tempered so and sos (can't remember think it was Genghis) attacked Mansa...my huge army rushes to his defence, saves him, and I have absolutely ludicrous numbers of troops when the war is over.

But when I ask him if he wants another def pact, I get the "you've grown too powerful for us" redline option. Huh?, which makes about as much sense as spearmen beating tanks....he's declining to be protected by the civ who is by miles and miles the most powerful nation on the planet, who ask nothing in return..Really, totally realsitic :crazyeye:

meh....defensive pacts are always a pain in the butt when it come to "becoming too powerful", but when they say that about you there's nothing you can do (i just set them against eachother and turn them into vassals that will never seperate (vassals are more of backup to the nation, i have 2 and i'm considering adding a 3rd))

On topic,

It seems a little dim to be too powerful for a defensive pact. There are reasons but it should say something along the lines of
"I'm not stupid, Genghis is your worst enemy and he borders me not you."

I don't like vassals anyway but I can understand why an island nation won't capitulate. May be it's good programming.

Back to the topic question,

I think when the excuse of "You've become to powerful" is partially the tendancy of the AI to take an aggressive stance towards the power and points leader.

In my opinion there is no way that you can't support the troops in Iraq, but you don't have to support the cause. Support the little man, but don't blame him. I have my own opinions because I am Canadian.

first u need to kill mot of computers units to make them accept u as master and what the comp always does is let u kill al other less protected cities while he gathers all his units in 2 last cities even if u destroy or capture one of those last cities he will still have o lot of units in the last one have to kill all of his units to make him accept and if they dont like it DESTROY THEM i hate AL

It means that you are so close to winning, that agreeing would (or would almost) give you the victory for the game.

It would be such an exploit if this condition wasn't there. Be glad it is.

how the heck is not allowing the AI to metagame an exploit, they should become your vassal if the alternative is destruction!, even a country like america in its founding stages was hanging onto a thread in its resistance against britian, even japan despite their zeal did not fight to the last man in world war 2, humans are very good at surviving, even if it means putting up with tyranny. why do you think it took so long?

Nice two year necro (not), but I would love to know what inspired the Mod Action. :)

If you hadn't posted before me, I think I would have put the EXACT same thing. :)

A couple of points:
1) We don't discuss Mod actions in public.
2) Given the wording of this specific action, you can probably infer what the *deleted* posts were discussing.
3) Since this thread insists on going off topic, Moderator Action: Thread closed.
