About a year ago (April 30th) I posted a BIG unit request thread and it got quite a good response. The following units came from that thread:

Asian Horseman

Native American Rifleman

Lancer

Western Native American Rifleman

Longbowman

Anyway, I thought I'd have another go and see how many units I can beg unit creators to make this time! :D 3D'ers, C&P'ers - I'm not too fussed. Anyway, on with the pics!

THE CELTS

Celtic warrior, 4th century BC

This unit would be the Celt's replacement for the Man-At-Arms (early Middle Ages swordsman; between Swordsman and Foot Knight)

Celtic Warrior of Hallstat period, VI c.

To be the Celt's flavour unit for the Foot Knight

THE CELTS (con.)

Celtic Warrior of La Tene period, 500 BC to 100 AD

Celt Spearman, III-II century B.C.

I know it says BC, but I would use this as a replacement for the Medieval Spearman (precursor to the Pikeman)

BRITONS & PICTS

Pictish Warrior

I know that utahjazz7 made a pictish warrior a while back, but I'd quite like one with a shield (utah's original unit is also a bit spindly)

British Javelineer

Early missile unit, precursor to the archer in my mod

I strongly second these requests, especially the Celtic units! Having these units would actually make me wanna play the Celts... I really hope someone is interested in maing these! Utah? Kinboat? Civarmy? Bebro? Aaglo?

By all the gods (hmm, Belenos, Toutatis, who else do I remember from Asterix & Obelix?), may these units be made!

Note: If the "new" Pictish unit were to have a spear attack (as an option, perhaps, so not as to pre-empt zulu's original wish), then it would do wonderfully as a Gaestatii (the naked, spikey-limed haired Transalpine proto-mercs that fought [and fled?] at the Battle of Telemon). Pretty please... ;)

GERMANICA

Gothic Warrior, V c. A.C.

I know that Kinboat has made a Germanic Spearman, but I think that's a bit too heavy, with the cloak and all. This one's a bit more overtly armoured, and I really like the top knot on his helmet as well. Sorry I can't get a shield design (I'll try).

Teutoberg Spearman, 1st Century A.D.

Flavour unit for the Germans, replacing the Ancient Age Phalanx - from the Teutoberg forest

Teutoberg Swordsman

That's actually a British-style shield, which is intriguing. But check the cool hat!

ROMANS

Late/Post-Roman Auxilliary, 4-5 c A.D.

Intended for use as a Roman flavour unit, replacing the Medieval Spearman in my mod. I suppose it could also be used for the Byzantines.

Magister Militum, ROMA V cen. A.C.

This would make an excellent dark ages Roman Swordsman - would also be suitable for the Byzantines, IMO.

ROMANS (con.)

Miles Legio II " Augusta" , 1st cen. A.D.

I think this would make a really good medieval unit. You could also make a spearman out of this quite easily. The main differences to the more familiar legionary is that he's wearing trousers and the shield emblem is quite different. It still looks a bit too recognisably ancient age Roman, though; so perhaps instead of the Lorica Segmentum he could be wearing chainmail or a breastplate. It would also be great if he had one of the helmets from the last pic. Finally, the pose in these pics would make for a great attack animation: sheltering behind the shield and jabbing forward (hence also being suitable for a spearman).

Roman Knight

And how about this as an upgrade to the Ancient Horseman, but before the Knight proper?

By all that is holy to Woden! Do the Teutoburg Germans first, oh honoured unit makers! I entreat thee!!! I make votive offerings to thy gods in bogs!!! I...uh...I run out of pagan blah-blah to impress upon you my wishes...

Well, you *know* that I heartily second all those Dark Ages warriors, although I don't know how likely it is that they will all get made! I'm not so sure about the Romans, though - can there really be any Roman infantry units that haven't already been made, or as close as makes no difference?

I think it's worth pointing out that Utahjazz7's Pictish warrior does have a shield.

EAST ASIAN

Daimyo, Mounted Japanese War Lord, Azuchi-Momoyama period (1568-1600)

I feel that this image is suitably ornate and heavily armoured to use as Japan's falvour unit for the Cavalier (late middle ages knight). Perhaps give it some horse armour as well.

Mounted Samurai, " Fukushima Masanori" , XVI c.

Currently, I'm using utahjazz7's Asian Horseman as Japan's replacement for the Feudal Knight. The Cavalier (late knight) would be the above unit), whilst a unit based on these images would make for a great Cuirassier:

EAST ASIAN (con.)

Samurai Horse Archer

Don't quote me on this, but I think that the original samurai were actually barbarian horse archers who hadn't been brought under the heel of a lord, circa tenth century or so. Anyway, I'm currently using Kinboat's Mongols as the ancient age Horse Archer, and I'd quite like an upgrade unit for that. Any of these would be good

Early Asian Swordsman

Someone's been requesting a Far East ancient age Swordsman, and I think that this fits the bill nicely. I know that utahjazz7 made a Shang Soldier, but it looks to heavily armoured to be one of the 'rank and file' (which I would use this for).

While I support your 5 requests that have been made into units thus far, as they all filled holes in civs flavor line (minus longbowman), this batch of requests seems a bit extreme. It would take 10 unit makers working 10 days to do all these, or nearly 50,000 monkey hours!
Anyway, of these, the ones I like are the bottom-most asain cuirassier and maybe one of the celts with swords.
Edit: and since you've just added it, a early Asian swordsman is much needed, but definately not one with a katana: something with a straight blade and generic nationality, so it could be used for all civs.
Awesome pictures by the way.

I'd like to see that Roman knigh tmade; for no other reason then it strikes my fancy to imagine heoric Roman knights charging about in the nam eo fthe senate and peoplke of Rome, and schooling the frankish barbarian Charlemagne, amoungst others ;)

Hey zulu, have you been into the PtW extras folder? Maybe there's minute differences I'm not noticing, but they have an asian horse archer, foot archer, and between that and Kinboat there's more japanese swordsmen than you could shake a katana at.

Yes, I know about the PTW Extras folder! However, I don't really like the Shoni no Kagesuke, the foot archer is irrelevant (I haven't requested it) and the Japanese Swordsmen all look too... Japanese!

Good point - I updated the pics

RUSSIANS

Armenian Hamir, Fatimid Caliphate. XI-XII c.

Not really Russian, but I would use it as such: medieval spearman (between Phalanx and Pikeman). You'll notice that he has a sword and quiver (also indicating the presence of a bow, although it's not shown) - those can be ditched (less work for whomever makes it!)

54-093_1.jpg

Russian Archer XIV century

Instead of the medieval Crossbowman, the Russians will have this chap instead. Key features to note are the chainmail hood, shield on back, shield on left leg and sword (would quite like the sword this time; but it's no biggy).

The Shield is on the back because this warrior needs to have his hands free. When in melee, he'll drop the bow like hell and fight with shield and sword. The "shield" on his leg actually is the quiver for his bow. :crazyeye:

Sadly our picture of medieval bowmen has been contaminated by all that hollywood crap where archers have swords and quivers on their back (which is nonsense, especially referring to swords) and not at their belts. Our ancestors knew why they did it that way... we should accept that. :)

Plotinus said:
It looks to me like the quiver is on his right leg and he has something else on his left leg. But is it a shield? It looks an odd shape.

Like I said... the quiver for his bow. What he puts his bow into when it's not needed.
:D
