zulu's unit requests II - warning! a lot of pictures

RUSSIANS (con.)

Timurid armoured Infantryman, XV c.

Strictly speaking, this is a Mongol soldier - but I'd use it as nice little flavour unit for the swordsman. Notice the circular armour/shield thing on his chest - I imagine that there's one on his back as well.

Russian Knight

Just looks cool. Obviously, the face mask won't be so visible at civ-scale but I like the contrast of the red shield on the dark horse.

Boiardo, Territorial Cavalry, Russia XVI – XVII Century

I believe that we don't have enough horse archers (i know where they are - please don't list them), and none of them look like they could be russian.

I do think that the Britons, Celts and Russians are severely under-represented in the pantheon of civ units - so who else is with me on the requests? More importantly, does anyone have an interest in making any of them?

You are true that the Celts and Russians are underrepresented.. but the Most Underrepresented civ is India. Perhaps you could find some cool units for them, too?

I think that Russia has quite a few flavor units made; it's just that they're all modern age units. ;) I like a lot of the units that you are requesting here, zulu. I just don't have time to make them right now. Perhaps this summer I will find time.

Why, yes - yes I could :)

THE INDIANS

ANCIENT AGE

Horseman

Kick-arse, I think you'll agree

Swordsman

Archer

Notice the arrows held in the bow hand with the bow - quite unusual, I think

1521_face.jpg

Spearman

He's only holding 2 spears, rather than a double-headed spear! So, just the one...

MIDDLE AGES

Knight

There might well be existing units suitable for this, I'm not entirely sure - LabMonkey's springs to mind (although perhaps a bit too arab?)

Swordsman

Yes, yes I know - it's a club ;)

Longbow

I actually intend for only the Britons to have Longbows, and other civs have crossbows - but I don't think that the Indians had crossbows

Spearman

Notice the wicker shield

That's great to hear. You know, this is turning into an annual event ;)

P.S. Yes, there's only so many variants of tanks and helicopter gunships that one can take!

In deed it is. I was actually thinking the same thing earlier when I posted.

Actually, I've been wanting to make that Indian Longbowman for awhile now. That was going to be one of the first units that I was going to make once I had time again. There's just something about 'im that intrigues me. I dunno what. Anyway, it's a pretty safe bet that you'll see that one sometime this summer.

Hey, thats wonderfull, Utahjazz! The Indians rEALLY need the units.

Sad that this is the last summer for Civ3....since Civ4 will probably be out by next summer...

Its good to see you back on the forums Zulu, but I must say I'm beginning to miss your tradition of pointing out when someone has posted on the wrong forum...

Nope. No Eras.

BUT, as I JUST said, they have REMOVED ERAS, going back to Civ II Style.

Really? How are they doing the Civ4 tech tree? If theres an option to allow new eras, thats a vast improvement over Civ3. I just hope at least that unit creation and leaderhead creation is still possible, not the mention the current ease of using the editor and text files to mod Biqs(or whatever the file type will be for Civ4)

It sounds like they're going to make it all code. I HATE Code. I think there will be a map editor with a scripter. And it will suck. If newbs think it is hard to get into modding now, wait untill Civ 4.

I hope they cancel the damn thing.

They haven't done away with eras entirely:
# You will be able to start in a particular era
Plus doing away with eras could, and most likely, be a good thing.
