ZWK PBEM Game

Teacher: see the minddless violence going down there on that continent called Europe? I want you to prepare a projection of what will happen in 5 years time basedon the 92,367 data items you have been provided.

Student1: Based on the very limited data set you have provided, if the Germans attack the Russians NOW, they will probably control Europe.

Student2: Yes. The British are a vastly superior naval power residing on an island. They pose little danger but are impossible for the Germans to invade. The odds of success are less than 0.16%.

Teacher: You are both wise. The Russians are akin to a Sehlat in PonnFarh. But can the Germans see that?

Student3: Why do we let them slaughter each other by the millons? Should we not be compassionate and show the way to towards the Reformation.

Student2: Haven't you heard of IDIC?

Teacher: Enough for now, we will visit again in one solar orbit to see what has transpired.

So says a spokesman from the german ministry of propaganda, who adds that the british hiring of sci-fi writers to do their propaganda, "just shows how much the allies have underestimated the cunning and wisdom of our great Führer."

Other News :

De Gaulle caught off foot, reports our correspondent, as german troops now circles in on Paris, violating the recently signed "polish treaty". It seems, De Gaulles *bought* peace with Das Victorious Reich has been based on all false promises and presumptions. Once again the cunning of Führer Hess shows he has shown the path of glory for Germany and its friends and allies. Our correspondent reports :

* Katowice and Warsaw fallen.
* British Aircraft caught in german fire near Bruxelles, and shot down effectively by Axis fighter patrol. This incident did not effectively prevent the speedy progress of German Panzer Grenadiers towards Rheims and Paris.
* Rheims surrendered to superiour Wermacht Panzer divisions, without german casualties.
* German subs did severe damage to an american battleship patrolling the North Atlantic, alas without sinking it. This editor questions, however, if this battleship will be able to make it back to the coast, as a wolfpack is reported by the german ministry of propaganda, as headed for american waters, to secure the atlantic trade routes.
* Allied battleship successfully sunk in the North Sea by german air patrols.
* Neutrality violated, as axis combined forces attacks Zürich in an attempt at forcing independents to cooperate with the german Wermacht in the war against France.
* A renewed attempt at a peace treaty with Führer Hess ended in embarassment for french emissaries, when german counterdemands were refused. "De Gaulle soon will lose all popular support can he not decide, should it be peace or war" reports anonymous sources in the french foreign ministry, who doubts De Gaulle can save France now from submission to Germany.

BTW, compliments on the sound work, koby! I just love the music! -and good sfx too -especially the sub/torpedo sound. I almost forgot how neat they were. ;)

[edit : obsolete zip deleted]

The US War Department clarified that the battleship Arkansas was damaged in the course of training when it collided with one of its escourts - contrary to unverified reports in several major papers that it was attacked by torpedoes.

Of the recent loss of a squadron of spitfires, the Royal Airforce had this to say. "We believe that the loss of our pilots was due to the poisoning of our pilots by Nazi agents. Radio monitoring just before the incident revealed that the pilots were distracted by a fast moving spherical object carrying children with pointed ears. Obviously they were hallucinating, perhaps from contaminated food."

In any event, we have cleared the seas of several squadrons of Jerry dive bombers in retaliation for the singking of the cruiser Belfast- not a battleship as the Nazi propoganda machine would lead you to believe. In preparation for a possible invasion, production of fighter squadrons has been optimised. Two squadrons are coming on-line every fortnight throught the use of a new manufacturing procedure called "clicking the buy button".

MI5 notes that Stalin will be away at his holiday dacha until Monday and will not be able to direct the Soviet war effort until then. It seems he will be savouring a delicacy sent to Moscow by their diplomatic corps in Istanbul. The delicacy in question is reported to be a fowl that looks like a cross between an ostrich and a pheasant.

I set my attitude to worshipful, Morten, the turn before.

Kob, why can't he gift me techs?

Save attached.

Because Soviets-Axis is one of the pairs banned from negotiations (the other being Axis-Allies). This was a change included in the version 2.0 update - refer to readme.

You will need to take a chance and go through a third party like Minor Axis or independents. As far as the game goes, only you and me can trade techs directly.

p.s. Do you like the map?

That is really strange since the following is taken directly from the events file:

@IF
NEGOTIATION
talker=Axis
talkertype=HumanOrComputer
listener=Allies
listenertype=HumanOrComputer

@ENDIF

Are you playing with the latest version (2.0R)?

If not, it can't be helped since each saved game carries with it its own events file derived from when the scenario was first loaded. Update with the patch anyway.

If you are playing with 2.0R, then blame it on micropose.

In any case, just don't negotiate directly with the soviets .

And the german avalanche continues... This time :

* Zurich Fallen (Swiss Banking captured)
* Krakow fallen
* Another Treaty signed with General de Gaulle

Alcib, as I apparantly can't gift you any techs, you're free to reconsider our arrangement. I'll try and provide the minor axis with the techs in question, but I can't get to decide which techs they want...

Btw, this time the russians bluntly refused to talk with me. So there must be something like Koby says that prevents this. Anyway, he should know, he made the damn thing. :)

Hmm, this kills the MP aspect of the game, doesn't it?

It's also somewhat ahistorical, because the Soviets and Germans DID negociate.

Morten, perhaps we can set up a time to be online together, and we can load the save and deal directly (only for tech trades, not playing the game), and in that way, solve the problem.

They did negotiate about how to carve up poland but they didn't trade equipment designs, just generic goods. That's why the Axis and Soviets cannot negotiate. Historically, the only foreign equipment that the Soviets used were Allied. So its not ahistorical. There is no problem, that's the way its meant to be.

brief report

U-002 destroyed off the coast of Rotterdam.

end of brief report

"VERDAMT!" -In a furious speech Der Führer condemned british agression in german naval territory, and woved to bring an end to allied naval dominance in the North Sea and North East Atlantic, before the end of the decade. He has issued orders and funds for a grand naval programme, which is to bring England and the dog in London to its knees. So said the spokesman of the german ministry of propaganda.

---

Alcib, sounds like a good idea. I have done something similar with Henrik in previous pbems. However, it looks like Koby has toggled "humanorcomputer" -so we might have to ask permission to change the events-file, if the events.txt is as listed above. But as said before, I got a clear response from the AI-russians when trying to negotiate with them, which I don't think is normally the case with this type of event.

Excerpt from Lord of the Admiralty in the house of commons

".....and with regards to the grandiose plans to end British naval supremacy I have this to say to Herr Hess; 'You, your puny number of German capital ships and which navy?' At the same time, I am pround to say that a decision has been made to bring forth a new generation of battleships named after our soverign, King George V. Our allies across the Atlantic have agreed to build half a dozen of these new behemoths for us and they will be ready not at the end of the decade but by the end of this year.

Finally I must add that I do have a pet dog here in London and find it strange for Herr Hess to mention it. It will never get on its knees, simply because it is anatomically impossbile for a dog to kneel. "

(huge uproar and standing ovation follows)

DailyBullsh1tin, I V Fullocrapski reporting:

We have decided to cease chastizing our slavic brothers in Poland, Comrade Stalin has said!

With that in mind, Our wonderful and loveable leader signed a peace accord with the Allied minor allies.

We are disapointed that the Reich can't send technical support, but the other pieces of the treaty may stand, as we have obtained "Estates" from Mussolinni, so if the Reich will provide them with BF-109s, we can complete our treaty, as they will provide it to us!

We also annouce that we are open to the west for trade of technology and science at any time!

Kob, if you want full MP mode, you should allow the Soviets and Axis to deal, and your wrong, BTW, it is ahistorical. Among the items Germany gave the Soviets was a heavy Cruiser, a weapon, by any standards, and that simply isn't possible here. If you want historical, you should make certain techs tribe specific.

With regard to the MP aspect, your one and only purpose is to kill the Axis and get to Berlin. That is also my one and only purpose. That is why we can negotiate with each other but not with the Axis. I have to consider the case when the soviets are run by AI. If they traded freely with both the Axis and Allies, they would be researching up three parallel trees to produce the same units. I think I have left enough lattitude for tech transfer via stealing and the minor powers.

p.s. If you are referring to the Hipper class Lützow, she was sold uncompleted to Russia in 1940 and was never completed. She was scraped in the late 1950s. (Not to be confused with the Panzerschiffe Deutscheland which was then renamed Lützow)

excerpt from

http://www.german-navy.de/marine.htm

These heavy cruisers of the Kriegsmarine were a result of the Washington Fleet Treaty of 1921, so called "Washington Cruisers". Their displacement was not to exceed 10.000 tons and their main artillery was limited to 8" (20,3 cm) guns, but in reality they were up to 60% bigger than allowed. Between 1935 and 1937 the keels of five of this ships were laid down which belonged to two slightly different classes of ships: The Admiral Hipper and her sister Ship Blücher, the improved second batch consisting of the Prinz Eugen, Seydlitz and Lützow. The last two were originally planned to be big CLs with an armament of twelve 15 cm guns, but due to the lack of guns and turrets and the threat of a new class of Soviet cruisers, the ships were built as additional ships of the Prinz Eugen design. Those ships were designed with the idea of commerce war in mind, they should attack allied merchant shipping and evade allied warships, but it soon got obvious that they were not ideal for this task. With their high-pressure steam engine their fuel consumption was too high and their operational range was not big enough to be used in the North Atlantic. In addition, the complicated engine construction often broke down. Of the five ships, only three got completed at all.

The Admiral Hipper was destroyed by her own crew in the final days of the war. Blucher was sunk on April 9th 1940 in the Oslo fjord. Prinz Eugen, often called the "lucky ship" was the only major german warship that survived the war and was sunk after atomic bomb test in the Kwajalein Atoll. Some parts of the ship's equipment is still existing today: One of its float planes, the T3 + BH, is now in the Silverhill Storage Facility of the Smithsonian. The ship bell is now in the US Naval Museum at Washington, the guns of turret Anton (which were removed before the atomic bomb tests) are still at weapons Testing Facility in Dahgren, Virginia. One of the props was salvaged from the wreck and is now on display at the Marineehrenmal in Laboe, Germany.

Lützow was uncompleted sold to Russia in 1940 and was never completed. She was scraped in the late 1950s. The Seydlitz was to be converted to an aircraft carrier, but was never completed, too. The ship was captured by the Russians in Königsberg and scrapped in 1958.
