I'd suggest the following:
1. Greece. Greece has more ties to ancient Italy due to Rome. It also means you get to anger Math.
2. Spain. Linguistically, Spain is closest to Italy. You also have a grand history of building the first empire on which the Sun never set! Plenty of land/casus belli as a result.
