If the Confederate seeks to be under Union protection why would we not take advantage? They are the ones making the mistake, however that is on them, not me.

If Germany wishes to remain an ally of Great Britain, it will remain outside of the affairs of the American continent.
Its been 20 years since the war, and we have commerical interests in the region. While the government might be bitter the people don't care, their family and friends live on both sides of the border.
A mutual defence pact with the Ottomans is out of the question. We can agree to the other terms, but the Ottoman Empire and Austria have been at each others throats since the 1500's.
