"Fall of the Roman Empire" by Mark Laanen converted for ToT and ToTPP 1.1

This scenario is set in the fifth century AD. The Roman Empire is split in a western and eastern part, now called the West Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. The weakened military state of the Romans has encouraged barbaric tribes from the north to settle or conquer areas in the Roman Empires. At the beginning of this scenario the (West) Romans have already last a lot of land to the barbarians. Hispania (Spain) is in the hands of the Sueves and Vandals. Tribes from Denmark raid the coast of Britannia (England), Aquetania (southeast France) is controlled by the Visigoths, and central European tribes like the Francs and Burgundiones have crossed the Rhine to settle in Roman territory. But the worst threat comes from the east. A new barbaric tribe coming from the Asian plains has terrified the other barbaric tribes. These mounted devils as they were called have already conquered the Ostrogoths and have set other tribes on the run. The Roman world is at the verge of destruction.

The original scenario can be found on the Scenario League Website here.

Modifications:

The scenario has been made compatible to run on Test of Time and TheNamelessOne’s ToTPP (which includes the following features NoStackKills, CityPopulationLossAttack, CityPopulationLossCapture, ExtraSettler Flags).

Originally the scenario only had the Huns as the protagonists, no matter what nation you elected to play as, and therefore your victory score depended exclusively on their performance (you could still win a decisive victory no matter how well or poorly you performed). This time each nation has been assigned its own set of specific victory conditions, which makes the game much more challenging. Simply run the FallRome.bat file before launching the scenario to determine which power you want to play.

The unit, terrain and many of the icons graphics have been updated. In addtion, the scenario has been modified so that the Roman Byzantines (ERE) and West Romans (WRE) factions now possess their own specific set of unit and city graphics (this is strictly a cosmetic change and has no incidence on game play whatsoever).

It was too easy, when playing as one of the Barbarian power (especially the Huns), for them to capture the Byzantine capital of Constantinople and as such a new powerful defensive "Theodosian Walls" unit has been added to help defend that city (it cannot be rebuilt if destroyed). The wall is not present when playing either as the ERE or WRE.

To reflect the scenario's ReadMe with regards the no bribing cities rule the Diplomats/Spies ability to "Incite Revolts" and "Steal Technologies" have been disabled when playing as the human player.

Given that this is a battle scenario covering only 50 years the Settlers/Engineers ability to build new cities has been disabled when playing as the human player (they can still improve tiles and build roads).

Finally, a new event has been added whereby any player will receive 50 gold for each enemy merchant unit they destroy.

Otherwise, the scenario plays and remains exactly the same as the original.
