"Fortress – Siege of Sevastopol” converted for ToT 2017-12-13

"Fortress – Siege of Sevastopol by Jim Panse converted for Test of Time and ToTPP

“BACKGROUND: It’s June 7, 1942. It’s a mild and warm June in the southernmost part of the Crimea Peninsula. Suddenly the air is filled with enormous noise. The artillery preparation for the storming of the world’s largest fortress – Sewastopol – has begun.

The 11th Army of the German Wehrmacht, commanded by the famous General Erich von Manstein, started his offensive. Von Manstein, one of the major Blitzkrieg strategists, set up a complete different strategy. He focused the attack on the use of heavy and heaviest artillery to deal with the fortifications.

OBJECT: Conquer the territory that remained under the control of the Red Army after the Spring Offensive, and destroy all remaining Soviet forces in the area.”

The game is playable only as the Germans. The AI controls the Russians.

The original scenario can be found on the CivFanatics Website here.

Comments:

The scenario has been made compatible to run on Test of Time and TheNamelessOne’s ToTPP (which includes the following features NoIncrementalRushBuy, NoStackKills, TerrainDefenseForAir, CityPopulationLossAttack, CityPopulationLossCapture and ProductionCarryOver).

Modifications:

A few tweaks were made to the event file, including adding a delay to the event that immediately rebuilt a killed Russian “Rifle Infantry” unit in the city of Sevastopol. As such, it was literally impossible for the Germans to ever capture the city as long as even one Rifle unit was there to defend it.

To make the scenario more challenging, the timeframe was reduced from 61 to 31 turns (the actual length of the battle). Since this is a battle scenario, the victory conditions were modified to be based on capturing city objective points, rather than the traditional empire building conditions.

The production of food on “Grassland” tiles was reduced from 8 to 3, since having such a high rate, particularly for such a short scenario, served no real purposes, other than forcing the player to constantly deal with the repeated game messages informing him that the city food box is full and they need to build a Water Supply for continued growth.

Otherwise, the scenario plays and remains exactly the same as the original.

Suggestions:

To slightly increase the difficulty, only allow your air units to base and operate from the airfield tiles located around the map.

As the designer makes no mention of the intended usage of the numerous “Supply Truck” you possess and get to build during the scenario, it is recommended you use them to help build German “Wehrmacht” units, that you may get the option to build on the turn you capture some of the Russian cities (you won’t always get that choice and if you decide not to take advantage of it on the turn the city is captured, it won’t be possible to change your mind later). As such, simply drive your “Supply Truck” to a city that is building a Wehrmacht unit and select to disband the truck and it will add production points to the building of the unit.

Requirements:

Civilization 2: Test of Time 1.1
