I just experienced, after my friendship with Scotland expired and he asked to renew it 2 turns later, that I failed to decline. My intention was to decline and I pressed the middle button to say "no" to the Friendship Suggestion, and Robert the Bruce didn't seem happy..... But apparently I went into a new 30 turns of friendship with him anyways?!

I tried to restart from last save a couple of time, and did it all over again, and a decline of friendship still leads to an "accept" every time. If I clicked the "Goodbye" button, it just acted as normal, and I can go on without my friendship with Robert the Bruce (and backstap him as I was about to try), but there's definetely a bug in the decline button.

AI is like Godfather: I'm Gonna Make Him An Offer He Can't Refuse ;) The first offer of friendship is bugged too.

I don't have a save (and play on Switch), but have had the same issue as well. Pretty annoying, but good to know that just clicking goodbye is a workaround.

Aha, so I'm not goin' crazy, good to know! I had the feeling that I was getting way more Friendships than ever before, and they really screwed me several times. Attaching a save of a situation I had just now. Hammurabi will ask for Friendship after you end the turn, and sayin' "NO" will not work (good to know "Goodbye" will work, by the way! In this game, he conquers my beloved Auckland in a few turns, and I gotta kill him for that...:nono:)

What I also found is that if you just hit Escape to get rid of his Friendship proposal, it will count as "NO", and still give you Friendship:mad:).

Adding my confirmation. Cleopatra makes offer of friendship on turn 408. Declining friendship is futile. :borg:

Obviously this pretty much makes the game unplayable. Pretty frustrating after 407 turns.

Edit: I missed the "click goodbye" workaround. Will try that.

I can confirm this is still an issue. I had to re-do 10 turns because of it (as I was planning to declare war on the guy and when the triumphant moment of declaration was supposed to happen I noticed I couldn't). Happened two times. Each time alliance expired and the AI asked me the next turn to renew friendship. I clicked "no" and the friendship was renewed.

Happened to me as well. Was happy that my alliance with Greece expired so I can go to war with Pericles soon, but when he asked for a declaration of friendship and I rejected, I got it for 30 turns.
More time to prepare for war, but still annoying.

What's everyone's situation with this now after the patch? I think it's workin' correctly now, FINALLY. When choosing "NO", there is now a new Popup where you confirm that you really, really really mean it, and I think so far, it's working!

Babylon asked if I wanted to be friends, but he's at war with like half the world so I said no because I don't want to ruin my diplomatic relationships. I clicked regular no, not no+stop asking. Their response was "friendship is a sacred bond and we can't accept" or something, as if I was the one who offered and THEY declined. Upon leaving the screen I saw their icon was now blue and we are friends.

Yes, it's still bugged. Happened on pc and ps4.

And after today's patch that bug STILL exists. So it is practically impossible to go to war with civ that I have EVER had a friendship with, the game just continues the friendship forever.

Unbelievable. I do not want stupid zombies but a working user interface would really be nice.

I know for a fact this happened to me in the previous version, but I waited to see if it was going to happen in this version.
I'm playing as Gitarja going for a religious victory. Pericles is my neighbor and I noticed that when he asks me if I want to declare a friendship with him, and I say no, that we are considered declared friends anyway? I don't want to hit "No and stop asking." because I wasn't exactly sure yet. Anyways, it's a bug and I'm attaching a video link of proof of it.

Moderator Action: Merged this into the main thread. This poster had the bug occur in 1.0.11.16. - Recursive
