I've exhausted my searching through the forum, so I figured I'd start a new thread about NON D2D users (I purchased the CDs from a store)

So my issue is like the D2D folks with installing 1.09, the patch doesnt find a currently installed version of Civ4 (irony is I used auto-update IN GAME)

I'm guessing there are missing registry values from the install because when I tried to run an uninstalled from Windoze Add/Remove program the game doesn't even SHOW UP!

So now I beg and plead for the fanatics to help me out ... am I missing a registry value? What is a solution (besides burning my copy of Civ4 and cursing Firaxis after so many years of Civ enjoyment?) please help :(

I have the exact same issue. I also downloaded the patch from within the game.

Oh, I have a store bought version of the game.

Did you change the install location? It might be looking in the default folders.

Yes I did. It's one of the first things I thought of when I got the error so I checked the registry to make sure it had the correct location for the game (it did) and then I tried opening the patch file form the location where the game is located and that didn't work either.

did you download civ4 from direct2drive? if so, that's the problem. we are waiting for a different patch.

No I didn't. I have a retail version that I got at Best Buy.

I also have the same issue. The patch doesn't appear to apply itself even after clicking okay. I hit the update section when the game starts up and it wants to download the 1.09 patch again.

I've tried patching it from standalone patches as well as the ingame patcher. Neither work. I am NOT, repeat NOT using a D2D version. Store bought CD.

Seems like shoddy work for a patch. *shrug*

I had your exact problem and tried all the things you mentioned. I originally installed the game onto a different partition than the default. What I ended up doing was uninstalling the game and then re-installing it using the default setup parameters. I then downloaded the patch and it worked fine.

I had the same issue with a CD-version from Amazon. I realized that there was no entry for Civ4 in Add/Remove programs.
I installed civ4 again (without uninstalling) into the same directory (also not the default directory). Setup didn't really copy any files, just ran through. Afterwards, I had civ4 in add/remove programs and the patch worked without a problem.
Hope that helps.

Agreed. A re-install over my previous game seemed to have worked.Patch applied with no issues.

Now that I am thinking about it. I did the Unpak on my previous install. I wonder if the patch specifically looks for that pak.0 file? That would explain why it thinks there isn't a game installed.

Hm.
