 And they wonder why we hate the rich.

'Cause one rich guy is precisely how all rich people act, right?

Sigh.

Guy is indeed a jerk, but lets not kid ourselves...he would probably be a jerk even if he weren't rich.

But judging people on character takes effort and courage. It involves actually engaging the person .That sounds like hard work .I may even be proven wrong . Soooo much easier to make valued cynical judgements based on social status and the like

There have been multiple studies showing how attitudes of people change from before they become a part of these institutions to after, where these institutions are usually banks or law school. Almost everyone's intention is not to work for a bank for long, or to go into law for environmental protection or civil justice, but take careers at banks and corporate law firms. After a few years in an environment where this kind of thinking is prevalent and you actually start to believe it. I have friends who have done the same thing - the only people hiring are the ones who make the money, and so they take their job at JP Morgan selling their soul, actively being told by their recruiter that it can totally be a stepping stone. But it pays too well and you are indoctrinated too fast to walk away, and a jerk is created.

That's very interesting ( honestly , but used quick reply without smilie options). But is a jerk truly created ? That's where courage is required by the observer in the efforts to honestly establish this and be willing to delve deeper .

To paraphrase Henry Rollins "cynicism is moral cowardice"

Why would you not withhold a tip for crappy service. I have rarely forgone a tip entirely but a waitress is no more entitled to my tip than any other vendor who doesn't live up to their promised service.

You screw up my wood floors, the carpenter isn't getting full price.
You didn't show up to mow the grass two of the four monthy agreed upon times, the landscaper doesn't get paid.
My car still sounds like crap when I leave the garage? I go back and demand a free repair.
I only see you one time during a one hour service, you don't get a tip.

I can't watch the video as I am at work right now so I am sure this guy is a jerk, but I take issue with the attitude that servers deserve their tip regardless of their level of service.

Welcome to the 100%.

When rich folk taunt the masses, already frustrated by wrongdoing and identifying, right or wrong, a villain who stands above them in power, history tells us that that "villain" would be very wise to remain humble.

I don't really understand his logic. He wants people to quit their waiting jobs for "real" ones, but presumably he also wants people to wait on him when he goes to a restaurant. So is he saying that he wants people to have "non-real" jobs? Is he saying that he wants the restaurant to introduce robotic wait-staff? Or is he just, and I am inclined to believe that this may be the case, not quite as witty as he thinks he is?

He didn't withhold the tip for bad service, he withholds the tip out of principle, every time.

Patroklos missing the point of the thread #569

Oh, Patroklos in lame-comeback-by-copying-other's-posts mode.

Didn't watch the video either, it says so in the text below it ;)

The story says that the dude withholds the tip whenever he feels he hasn't received appropriate bootlicking. So yeah, he probably always withholds the tip.

And this is how we're becoming despotic societies.

Respect scale is going down.

He's making rich people look bad by proclaiming that he's rich and acting like a jerk.

If I kicked a random person in the arse and shouted: "I'm Polish, I do what I want!", that would make all Polish people look bad.

Yes, if only it were like the old days, when rich bankers respected menial wage-labourers. :crazyeye:

Not insulting someone because of his job is a sign of respect that costs nothing and that, fortunately, most rich people still keep.
