... why Firaxis should ask the FfH Team to create FfH for Civ5 as a Mod coming with the retail game!
(And why the folks should take the offer. ;))

This might be ambitious but alas, let's try!

  1. Firaxis would secure themselves my sympathies and probably those of a lot of other players here as well.
  2. Kael could further advance in becoming what his Avatar so clearly is: Immortal.
  3. Because it really is the only way to go. :p ;)

:goodjob: ... Go ahead, people!

well ... i mainly think that it should be swapped - FfH should be base and "vanilla Civ" should be mod :D

4. it would be one more reason why to buy it

Let us not descend into unnecessary, egotistical self-congratulation. At least, not where there's witnesses. Well, allow me to add to the list of reasons this highly improbable occurrence would be awesome.

5. It would allow Firaxis to showcase the modding capabilities of their new engine.
6. It would also allow Firaxis to fine-tune said engine by getting feedback from one of Civilzation's most famous modders... who would I should hope, collect requests from his fellow modders as well.

8. Because it would let them market to the WoW crowd (buy this new game! It's got orcs and dark elves and fireballs and stuff!).

9) Because they read my signature
10) Because they know they screwed up with Colonization for CIV4 and decided to ask some experts this time

I have to admit that I do find FfH and its concepts a huge leap over 'regular' Civ. I've been gaming for decades - I consider 'base' Civ IV one of the best games I've ever played, belonging on lists of all time greats.

But with FfH II, it goes from the 'great game' into the rarified air of the Michael Jordan's, Babe Ruth's, etc. of the gaming world. For me, in computer games, it is just MoM and FfH II as the top of the list.

Even if we are a biased crowd, from a pure gaming standpoint, FfH II relative to regular Civ is largely about making the game more 'specific' and adding more strategic options for players. By specificity, I mean that in base Civ IV iI can pretty much play the same way no matter whom I am playing, in FfH II I have to vary the strategy, often dramatically, for the Civ played and the environment.

Many players find regular Civ difficult to master and FfH II can be intimidating. But by including it, they can have a simpler mecahnical game (probably with better AI) and an alternative, a more detailed, immersive game with greater complexity.

For me, the 'immersion' is the greatest difference. It is hard to describe exactly -when I play BtS, I enjoy the strategy, but when I play FfH II, I feel immersed into the world, the strategy , etc. I find it a quantum difference.

I don't think it will ever happen but a guy can dream!

Best wishes,

Breunor

11) Because I have played more hours of this free mod than I have played any other game I have ever owned, and for their own financial benefit, Firaxis needs to find some way to tap into that appeal.

SERIOUSLY! I have spent so much time playing this game, and paid nothing for it! I would shell out serious dough for another FFH game. doesn't matter the price, because you can't put a price on good ole fashioned awesomeness.

12) Because that is where their business is. The only reason i would buy CIV5 is if it has FFH3. if there is no FFH3, then it's doubtful i will get CIV5

Seriously Kael should get a commision on BTS sales. The ONLY reason i baught BTS was because it was required for the latest FFH2 patch (i played old versions of ffh2 for a while with vanilla civ4 but wanted to play the latest patch). I have only played BTS once... well actually only half a game, then got bored and went back to FFH.

Same here. I had played FFH2 for Vanilla Civ for a long time. I wanted to play the newer version of FFH2 to see what had changed and for a different taste of FFH2 goodness. (I had gotten tired of destroying the world with the Sheam in Vanilla..)

So, I bought BTS specifically to play the newer version of the Mod and I have yet to play the BTS version of Vanilla Civ.

I don't regret buying BTS simply because FFH2-BTS Edition exists. I doubt I will ever play Vanilla Civ BTS.

Pretty much same here.

I used to play Van Civ4 daily until I found FFH, since then i have barely played Van Civ 4.

I have been playing FFH2 since beginning. I have only played a couple games of BTS, could count them on one hand. I will only purchase Civ 5 if FFH is ported to it by Kael and co. IF someone else takes the reins i will probably just wait and see how the dev goes before buying it.

From a business perspective Firaxis should be taking this mod into account when marketing/launching Civ 5. If you look at the sheer numbers alone. FFH has about 400,000 dl's, minus the people the have downloaded numerous times, this is still quite a substantial number.

If I remember correctly there is not official website for Civ ( I have not used another at least since finding Civ Fan)

Taking into consideration the Civ Fan numbers alone it quite impressive.
Civ 4 Gen discussion has about 38,191 threads and 612,040 posts.
FFH has 8,094 threads and 243,850 posts.

FFH is by far the most popular mod and they would be obtuse not to try and implement a version of FFH within the initial launch of Civ 5. I know if I was a lead on the Civ 5 team at Firaxis I would be talking with Kael and company to help produce a version of FFH to be launched with Civ5. From a business pov you just can't ignore these numbers.

I can jump on this boat too. I bought civ IV gold and bts to play FFH2, I had a cracked version of vanilla before that. Basically Kael made me spend $100 to play this awesomeness, and now RifE and these forums are my biggest hobby.

13) because many of the design features that would be developed by the FFH team (assuming the team would be invited to head up the project) could be used in a feedback loop to make the vanilla Civ V game better

14) Because the hamster wills it

Seriously, at 14) this thread is already coming to an halt? And spiraling downwards?

So there'll likely be no FfH with Civ5, huh?

---

15) Because it would most likely open up the base of available unit classes and promotions - which then can be modded again. :)

16) So Kael can get multiple map layers in on the base game.
