1000 Bad Habits in Civ 3

171. Forgetting to check the terrain before attacking a city. (Nothing quite like realizing, only a moment too late, that the fortified pike in the city is also standing on a hill.)

The thing that I miss is always the river that I didn't know was there. When I lose 5 or 6 cavs in a row against that notorious reg spear, I always use clear map to see if I missed a river. some of them can be tricky to follow when they twist and weave.

168. ...trying to manage 10 or more cities after a 4:20 break...lol :D

169. saying "i'll pee after i get these units over there..."

I plead no contest. On both counts. :hide:

I cannot afford to miss terrain, as I have boosted both the city and river defense bonus into something closer to what the military uses for force requirements. River is still lower than that, but I have to allow for the ancient units. They get a lower boost than modern units. Modern river crossing on not exactly easy. Go with WW2 data, which is still pretty accurate.

172. Attacking AI island with 4 offensive units and hoping that it is enough to take 1 city(often is not).

173. Attacking enemy ships without bombarding them first (and getting beaten despite of odds).

174. Thinking that lone longbow can't beat attacking cavalry.

175. Spending millions on police stations to have your cities producing 70 shields... when you're building infantries and tanks. :D

176. Enabling "Halt on enemies" when you're auto bombing with 40 artilleries.

177. Assigning every slave to railroad one tile each, and then having to wait 8 turns to clear pollution.

178. Naming your *elites after your girlfriend, and expect her to be flattered.

179. (possibly as it is a CifFan habit and not a Civ game habit) Trying to close the diplomacy screen or whatever by clicking the X when it is just a screen shot.

179a. trying to scroll the window when looking at a Map screenie.

...Don't ask  I am seriously "Reality Challenged".

Very guilty. :hide:

181. forgetting that "move stack" was on before attacking a city.

(i did this last night. i moved the entire stack by rail to my neighbor's front door and i forgot that it was on when i went to move my first unit...ended up wasting most of my army)

How do you use "move stack"? Is this possible in Civ3 vanilla?

Sadly, Move Stack is not available in vanilla. It made its entrance with Play The World.

That's too bad. I often don't play for the conquest/domination victory simply because I don't want to take the time required to manage a lot of military units in large scale wars. Move stack would have made it much easier.

i have civ 3 complete.

There are two buttons above the status report at the lower right of the screen. One is move stack, and one is move stack of similar units. You get a tool tip when you mouse over the buttons. I think the keyboard shortcuts are X for stack and Ctrl-X for stack of same type, but I never use the shortcuts, so don't quote me on that.

Well, you can move all of the same units in a stack with the "j" move in vanilla. it just means that you need to [j] each type.

I miss the fact that I could tell a stack of workers to goto and they would remember it in the next turn but in Conquests, they don't remember so you have to tell stragglers again... ((((sigh))))

The "j" button does work in Conquests. However, if you stack moves next to an AI unit, you'll have to reassign it.

I'm not sure if anyone else does this, but:

182:Bombarding first with bombers and then with artillary as that's the order the game brings them up, losing the chance for fatal bombardment.
