1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die

Flicks that weren't on the list:

The Sand Pebbles - Steve McQueen classic.
Le Mans - Best racing film.
This Island Earth - 2nd best sci-fi flick.
American History X - Best present-day racism flick.
Lawrence of Arabia - Did this just happen?
To Kill A Mockingbird - Another racism classic.
Das Boot - German version with English subtitles. Makes you feel like you were there.
Modern Times - Best Charlie Chaplin flick.
Boyz N The Hood - Can't understand South Central LA without watching this classic.

Are you referencing a previous poster? As all those movies are on the list (Be careful with foreign flicks on the list as they are translated into English, i.e. Das Boot = The Boat)

I was also really disappointed that more classic Bond wasn't on that list. The other thing I thought was missing was Zulu (1964?). Has anyone seen that? It's one of my all-time favorite movies.

467.Cool Hand Luke (1967) Best Law and Order / Paul Newman flick.
816.Dances with Wolves (1990) Best American Indian flick.
824.Total Recall (1990) Makes even Schwartzenegger almost appear to be an actor.
878.The Shawshank Redemption (1994) Epic.
995.City of God (2002) Sheer brilliance
These I have seen and enjoyed very much too. Not missing something in list where are 1000 items is allways hard.

American History X - Best present-day racism flick.
Modern Times - Best Charlie Chaplin flick.
Also seen, good picks. I generaly consider American History X little insincere, but thats just my opinion.
And I understand why you picked Modern Times! Its all the funny and with social message.

Seriously I hate Bond, without exceptions. I would say thats horribly stupid, if even most intelligent people from my family and friends would not love it.

I dunno, I love the Connery Bond stuff. The rest of it is pretty meh (Although the new Bond isn't too bad)

I'll toss in a mention for A Shot in the Dark. It never gets old.

Well, not all of them. But 4 are. Oops. It was late and I was getting really sleepy when I finished the post.

I wouldn't have even considered any of the newer ones, but I was a bit surprised that Thunderball wasn't there. Then again, none of the Bourne flicks are on there either, and I think they are just as good.

I also consider the first Indiana Jones flick to be an incredible parody of all action/adventure B-movies. And as such, it should also be included. It is just a shame they let rank commercialism provide the impetus to become what they were originally spoofing so cleverly.

Also a great flick. I agree it should probably be included in a 1001 list.

Thunderball is good. Dr. No is pretty good too as I recall.

First indy is on there, it's labeled as "Raiders of the Lost Ark"

It's unfortunate. There are a couple of other classics that are missing, but overall I don't consider it an absolutely terrible list.

I would have put Thunderball on the list. And Dr. No is a bit rougher being the first one. Then again, it was also a lot more credible and less ambitious than the rest which could be taken either way.

Aha. Glad to see it made the list.

No, not at all. The only flick I saw that I didn't think belonged on there was 945.The Blair Witch Project. And I never watched it, so I am speculating based on the clips I have seen along with the reviews. And, of course, it is missing everything from early 2003 on...

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I was doing the first time I went over the list. I'd do ctrl+f to look for a movie that certainly belonged on the list, and not find it, get a little irritated, and then find out it was listed under a different name.

I watched Dirty Harry last night. I'm glad I finally got to see it; that one and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" were my two primary motivations for starting this little project of mine (those and Citizen Kane). It is an incredible movie, to be sure. Clint Eastwood is such a bad***

Blair Witch Project was a horrible, horrible movie. If I never see it referenced again it will be too soon.
